So I have a 2005 and I know it has never been flushed, the service schedule in Haynes says to change at 6 years or 100k so I figure its about time just to be safe. But I want to check on a few things before I knock it out this week.
First off, I want to do a flush and take the t-stat out but in Haynes it says nothing about replacing the o rings but when I look it up on Google some people say to change the o rings when you put the t-stat back in. Thoughts?

Second since I want to do a whole flush and try to get everything out I plan on buying a few extra gallons of distilled water and pouring that through. But I also was reading that the water you use to flush wont come out of the system all the way, so I was thinking if I drain all coolant then flush the system and then pour some mixed antifreeze through till it comes out the drain will this work?

Thanks for any suggestions and reps to anyone who helps!

You never really get it all out. Kinda like changing your oil, you never get it all out. I drain the system, fill with water and run it for a couple with the heater on, drain, and then repeat it again. Then fill with the proper coolant mix and go.

As far as the O-ring, I didn't replace mine. Just check it and see if it's in good shape, no rips, tears, or cracking. And make sure it is still soft and pliable. Smear a little oil, or coolant preferably, on the ring before reintalling. Before my S/C i went with a 10* cooler thrmostat and it really made a difference, but I installed a new elec. H2O pump at the same time too.

Def change the o rings out. There is no reason not change something while it is apart, especially when it seals a liquid. As for the "flush", unless you have an actual machine that pumps and sucks out the old stuff then, like 07 Boss said, fill it with water then run for a bit and drain. This may take a couple of times. So don't waste antifreeze on this. Anymore questions just ask. I do this all day at Mackenzie Mustangs in Palm Springs.
