I don't think so, without the cobra badges its someone else's dumbass fault if they think it's a cobra not yours.
No shortage of those people out there. Even when mine was just a 2v GT with Cobra bumpers people thought it was a Cobra, and accused me of misbadging. :screwy:
I can't imagine anyone in their right mind that would see a GT with Cobra bumpers and think "Wow, that's a Cobra!"
I have SVT badges in my garage that I've never put on. The question is, is it powered by SVT or a custome build? A custom build is not SVT.
I had seen some badges floating around out there that were SVT, but in small print below the SVT said "powered by."
Not to mention the M112 has "SVT" cast into the snout. Should I go ahead and grind that off?
while I kinda agree with your point, look at it this way, how many times would you have to tell people the statement you just made above before you wished you never put the fake emblems on in the first place?
having to explain your self over & over will make you hate to even drive the car no matter how bad ass you think it is as a fobra.
don't think I'm right? just read the comments in this thread & look at the poll, it's not even close, people don't like fake cars & some will go to the trounle to make the owners life miserable.
Ironically as someone who some would consider misbadged, the response I've received has been overwhelmingly positive. People haven't pissed and moaned "look at this fake Cobra! We should key it to show the owner this is an unforgivable offense!" The reaction is "Wow! Nice terminator!" "It's actually a GT." "Seriously? No way." "Yup. Swapped everything over myself." "Wow, that's pretty crazy."
I think people are a lot more reasonable than we give them credit for.
If I see a well done clone, quite honestly I'm more impressed than seeing the real thing. That means that someone went through the time and effort to replicate the original.
If I see a poorly done clone, I probably would judge it on its merits. Fobra with a stock 2v under the hood? I'm going to keep walking. Fobra with a 5.4 TT under the hood? I would find that cooler than an actual Cobra.
If it's a plain GT with Cobra badges, I'd probably pull a Nelson, point and go "Ha-ha!" and keep walking.
Where it's unacceptable is when someone is trying to pass it off as authentic. I saw what at first glance appeared to be a 1970 Chevelle SS for sale one day. I stop to check it out, and the owner swears its authentic. So authentic in fact that it had a 305 engine and a 3spd auto on the column. Yeah, nice try. Quite honestly, if it was a true clone, I still would have bought it. I don't care if it's fake, that combination is just plain droolworthy. :drool
Sidenote: I might throw a Cobra in the grille. After all, real 03/04 Cobras had a pony in the grill, so it's not really misbadging. :bubba:
