So my 98 gt's engine has just about reached the end of the road. Any one have any recommendations as to what 2004 and newer Gt engine would be best to be looking at? What engine will require the least amount of changes to my gt and be the easiest to toss in?

find a mark 8 engine. you would be happier lol . they are DOHC and can be found for dirt cheap.

Ive never heard anything about that swap im gonna look into it and and see how its turned out for other people.

Most people did it easily. i am building mine all out. but they are basically a direct swap for a very cheap aluminum v8 DOHC. exhaust and 96 cobra cams and make that power lol . even just swapping it straight in its much better.

the easiest drop in motor is ofcourse another 96-98 gt
next easiest is 99-04 gt motor
third would be the 96-98 cobra or mark viii motor. mark viii motors are usually cheaper than the cobras even though they are the same engine but you would need pieces from a cobra like intake some others i forget right now.
or you could just get a 99-04 cobra motor. best one to drop in but the most money

So I just looked up all the engines every one has mentioned and I'm leaning more torwards the 2004 cobra and 2004 gt. I looked into the mark8 but I cant find many valid sources with info on just how dependable that engine is. And yeah I know the easiest swap would be another 1998 but i want something newer. I guess you can say I'm going more for dependability than anything else. I just cant make up my mind .2004 gt engines go for 3k with tranny, about 40k miles and warranty. And cobras go for about 9k also with tranny around 40k miles and warranty. The dohc withba supercharger sounds nice though.... def worth the extra cash.

I haven't looked into the aviator motor yet but ill check it out after the game. GO PATRIOTS!!!! Lol

My boss drives a Lincoln Mark VIII with the 32 valve 4.6l and has 80,000 miles on it with the only maintainence being regular oil changes and tune ups. They're just as reliable as any 4.6l can expect to be. Any motor is unreliable when put under continuous race and performance application though. If you really want a reliable car my recomendation would be to buy a Toyota to drive daily and mod your Mustang for what a Mustang is supposed to do... Go fast...

Ill stick to ford. My daily is a 2011 fusion. I dont use my mustang on the track I just cruise it and drag at a light here and their so if I get a good engine it should last a good while.

the markviii motor is a ford motor. its the same thing as the 96-98 cobra motor and just as reliable. 9k is pretty high for the cobra motor but it looks like thats motor and tranny and warranty and all prob from some kind of engine dealer i assume. but you can also check out the aviator motor previaously mentioned or you could always go with a navigator motor. basically any modular motor will work with some changes such as intake and harness etc. it all comes down to what you wanna do and what kind of build you want but most of all budget

Not exactly the same.

6 bolt cast crank
Pre 96 Mark engines:
Inferior valve springs not suitable for cobra RPMs
GT oil pump
Heads had very slight shrouding of the valves in the CC
They dont run a gt oil pump... They run a high volume one same part number as the cobra one.

I did the lincoln swap on a gt it was well worth the time and money we spent about 800 bucks for eveything the car made 260hp and 270 torque with stock lincoln parts.

Never the less, a Mark VIII 32v will be no less reliable than any other modular 32v. If you want easy just replace the motor with stock. If you want cool do a 32v 4.6 or 5.4 out of a Navigator if you're really ambitious...

You do not have to change the harness. just extend it. And the mark viii engine from 96 and up are teh best.

Id forge the current motor and get some PI heads and save for boost.

But if ya want a new motor. 03 Cobra motor all day. or you can get an aviator motor for $1600 or so. it has the C heads which are better than the B heads on the Mark VIII motor. Nothing wrong with a Mark VIII motor though
