FOURTY FOURS. LOVE EM! LOUD WHEN YOU STEP ON IT CHILL WHEN YOU WANT. Full yingyang. Its like theres a party in your ears and everyones invited.
Agreed- out of all the Flowmaster mufflers I've tried, I have to agree Super 44's are my personal muffler of choice. Deep, loud tone when you get on it, but quiet when you cruise.

Awesome write up always was wondering what ones i would go with . Thanks

Knockoff 44's

Does anyone have knockoff 44's? It says they are a copy so does this mean they sound the same? Id rather just buy the cheap ones. Not worried about quality eventually going to go full stainless. I'm tired of my ears bleeding with just my catless x blaring underneath me...

Thanks
Alex

Who makes the "knock off 44s"? can you post a link of the mufflers in question.

+1 on this as well. The patent on that design is still in tact so no one should be touting a direct copy of that design

Flowmasters 40 series

Thanks for the great write up!

I am currently running the Super44's and while they sound great at idle and at WOT, they do resonate (drone) inside with my set up around 2500-3000rpm, where the car usually lives. I was thinking about the Delta flow 40's, but you have pointed out that some folks feel these are two quiet. Flowmaster has advised that the sound difference on a scale of 1-10, with 10 being the shorty 10 series, is about an 8 with the original 40, a 7 with the super 44's and a 6 with the delta 40's. They say that there is very little sound difference between the super 44's and the delta 40's, but the 3rd baffle with the delta 40's does reduce the interior noise. Now, I don't want to loose the good features of the Super 44's, but the drone gets old after a while. You did mention the Super 40's also contain the delta flow technology, might that be a better option than the delta flow 40's? Thoughts?
Thanks..........JM

I just found out I have Delta flow 40's. Not Original 40s.
This explains the feeling of "wait a minute..." i got when it rolled out from the shop months ago.

No one is ever going to take me seriously, i might as well have fleshlights for exhaust tips.

Swap them out. Ive never heard the delta flows so i dont know how loud they are but im sure theyre not that bad. If anything, cut the exhaust past the mufflers. Its loud and doesnt cost anything

I just wanted to update this thread and add this chart that I took from the Flowmaster website.

I've never ran the Super 10's, but it looks like it utilizes the same deflector design the Super 44 offers but in a single chamber. I've found from past experiences that single chamber mufflers offer more of a "loud" tone then a "refined" tone. (In the past I ran IMCO single chamber mufflers utilizing a single deflector so I can't directly correlate it with the Super 10.)

I would like to note that Flowmaster claims the Super 10 utilizes Delta Flow technology which should cut down on drone, but in a single chamber design I could only imagine how loud it is. This is what keeps me from ditching my Super 44 and going Super 10. I like loud, but I like "tone" as well. The fact that I run an Off Road H probably wouldn't help too much. As it is, you can hear my car from blocks away. (Currently running stock manifolds, Pacesetter off road H pipe, and Super 44 mufflers. All 2.5" piping from manifolds back.)

I ordered the Super 10's and had them in my hands, but I returned them as they were so small and I was afraid of how loud they'd get and lack of tone they may have. The case is easily half the size of a Super 44 (hence single vs double chamber).

I want to also note the single chamber Imco (now Cherry Bomb) muffler I ran mentioned above was ran on a Ford 4.0 V6 motor (Ford Explorer) and it lacked tone and was just loud. I ended up swapping to a Super 40. (The truck had an Off-road Y with 2.5" piping from the manifolds back.)

It's also important to note that I ran a Super 44 muffler on that V6 and it sounded like ass. The Super 40 sounded so much better. On the flip side, the Super 44 sounds amazing on a V8. Hearing side by side comparisons on a 4.6L Mustang GT with Super 40 vs Super 44, the Super 44 was not only deeper, but sounded much more aggressive versus hollow (both cars had stock manifolds and Off-road 2.5" H pipes).

Mine don't sem too loud to me they don't drone nearly as bad as the the original 40s that I ran for like 4 years. I have had these 10 series flows since 2009 so far and even with 1000+ one way mile trips they were not bad at all imo but I have a catted X pipe. With an o/r mid they may be on the loud side.

Funny because the only people who are concerned about Flowmasters are noobs!

Seriously though. Most misleading company name in the industry.

Ignore me. Carry on.

I've read this before in the past when trying to pick the best flowing muffler at the quietest DB levels. I ended up going with the maxflow by hooker and yes, that thing was really quiet. Even when it was catless.

Haters gonna hate!

I personally like the tone and sound of my Super 44's. I've tried other mufflers and seem to always go back to them. Now if I was a high HP car, then I'd look at another muffler obviously. Numerous tests show that Flowmaster isn't the best flowing muffler.

If I were a Flowmaster fanboy and had to stick with the name under high HP numbers, I'd go to their Outlaw mufflers.

I've read this in the past from you; however, I'm sure the cats make a big difference lol. I wonder how an O/R H would sound in person with them.

Love my 44s. 600+ to wheels with them.

Or maybe they're the reason my car won't start now...:shiftyeyes
