Definitely shocked a lot of people with the Roush, came within a second of Hyman's Nissan GTR and to me, that's a victory considering how out of date my car is!
I agree, Hyman's car is a beast! Nice driving, people are probably shocked cause I bet San Diego Region doesn't see a lot of fast CP cars :D

Car did look a lot more settled on day two, good job on moving the Watts. The amazing things you can do when not constricted by stock/street class rules :p

Thanks and definitely! Hyman was the announcer for our heat and he was going nuts over the car haha. Not to mention a couple of the guys who were frustrated with CAM class told me they're coming for me in CP next year :)

yeah I'd be pretty screwed if I couldn't make those watts changes. it was a night and day change!

welcome back to the autocross world! Nice vid but one suggestion. always keep your hands at 9 & 3 when racing. hand placement in autocross is very very important. Your hands should always be the same distance on the wheel, if you work on this I can guarantee you'll much faster!

Here's a good video showing my hand placements. I took this video specifically for that reason to watch what I'm doing while driving.

Thanks for pointing that out, yea I need to work on that and looking forward more caught myself looking at the cone I was at already and not the next one ahead. I didn't mess with the air pressure all 6 runs we had, and after my final run I checked pressure and was up to 42-43psi and started cold at 38psi. Should of checked it and lowered it as the heat built up, but I wasn't focusing on that to much just getting used to the new car and being back out on track.

Also anyone with a 5.0 I remembered to turn off the traction control like ever other run but is there any noticable chance when turning off the stabilty control too? Got to hold the brake and traction button for like 5 seconds?

So I did my first Auto-x for 2014... got to test out my Hankook R-S3's, the Koni Sports, and the Steeda Competition springs.

The car is MUCH faster. So much more grip. I do have to say though, the 275 tires on the 9" wheel seem to be a little less responsive than the 255's were.

It's a different course than I ran last year, but similar times were being produced by some of the other cars I saw there. I wish I could make it to the test-n-tune where they have the same course every year. Anyway, I went from being about 2 seconds behind a mostly stock C5Z06 with ??? tires last year to being ahead by over a second with him on BFG Rivals this year.

I know I left a lot of time out on the track too...

Anyway, I bested (I think) every corvette out there and was just a touch off the fastest CARs (a modified 90's Camaro on Hoosier A6's, and a VERY Modifed Corvair, also on slicks of course).

Unfortunately, I had to use my cell phone, certainly not ideal for this type of thing. Hope to pick up a GoPro before the end of the year.

Ended up hitting 3rd gear on the last stretch because I was running into the rev limiter (7200RPM) for almost a full second on previous runs. Probably not worth the shift, but it was fun to chirp the tires into 3rd on an autocross course.

To fully defeat stability control, press and hold TC button for 6 seconds.

To activate sport mode, hold brake, double "click" TC button.

I run in "competition" mode, but the few times I ran with it fully defeated I felt faster (there are a handful of times that the car would fight me).

what do you mean "competition" mode?

Turning everything off makes a noticeable difference. Stability still kicks in quite early even with traction off. Forgot to turn it off at a Tour and it probably cost me a trophy lol.

And the tire fun continues, here's mt fifth run at SASCA's April autocross. It was my first event on the Hankook R-S3. The course designer was a first timer and he came up with an extremely tight layout that had awkward angles and no flow between elements. This video is my best scratch time, a 36.86 plus a very obvious cone :p Unfortunately, my best clean run was a half second slower, which cost me nine spots in pax (ended up 23rd out of 147). Oops.

Felt I underdrove a bit in the sweepers, but the one run I "went for it" I ended up in the marbles. Still happier though, I can trailbrake these almost like they're A6s!

Came away from this weekend as the CP-SD National Tour Champ!

Saturday I struggled with oversteer. Having removed the rear aerodynamics from the car really made a vast difference on grip and even with a bigger front sway bar on the car for this event it still was catastrophic. Left a LOT of time on the table saturday unfortunately but still came away with a good sized lead going into Sunday. Here's my best from Saturday:

Changes for sunday were very basic, all I did when I got home saturday night was move the Watts Link Roll Center down an Inch. This alone brought the rear of the car back under control and set me up beautifully with just the right amount of oversteer to lay down some seriously quick times. Definitely shocked a lot of people with the Roush, came within a second of Hyman's Nissan GTR and to me, that's a victory considering how out of date my car is! Here's my best from Sunday:

Here's just a couple of misc vids, first one is of my first run from sunday when I was getting a feel for the course. Second is just a rear facing camera.

Overall I had a blast this past weekend. Extremely pleased coming away with a win at my very first National Level event in autocross. Look for more things to come, we might be headed to Cone Surfing USA (Lincoln) if we get the car prepared in time! Currently she sits in the garage with a broken rear end. Passenger side C-Clip "partially" failed and tore up the wheel bearing and outer seal. These damn hoosiers are just too sticky for c-clips!

Awesome driving man! I drive with all the SFR folks that went down to SD all the time and using their times as a comparison you're putting down some very impressive times! I'm still depressed about not being able to go to the Tour or the Pro...been working 12 hour-days and 6-day workweeks for the past couple of weeks.

Hope you can make one or both of the Crow's Landing National events up in Nor-Cal later this year, would love to check out your car in person! I can promise you Crow's Landing is at least on par if not better than El Toro as a venue!

I finally got some 315/30/18 BFG-R1S' mounted after waiting almost 3 months for the custom F/R offset 18x11 Forgestar F14's to get built. The offsets spec'd by Vorshlag sure do tuck everything in nice and neat but part me actually wished it poked out more, you know...BECAUSE RACECAR LOL!

Since I missed out on San Diego National Tour and El Toro Pro-solo thanks to the work schedule I went on an autocross binge this Sunday. Took 12 runs, 8 in the Mustang and 4 in a friend's D-Street WRX. My co-driver was out of town so I was tasked with trying to keep the tires some what warm by my lonesome in a large run group. I don't think the tires ever got to their best operating temperature, and the Oakland Coliseum surface has deteriorated rapidly to the point that every run picked up more loose gravel from the asphalt. I don't think anyone in the country has given these BFGs a serious shot in ESP...still, it will be interesting to see what we can get out of these.

Here's my best run from this Sunday's event. A short but fun course!

No traction control and less aggressive stability control.
how do you get the competition mode activated? or is it something you had added extra
Sorry, this should say "I run in SPORT" mode.

Next auto-x I'll turn this all off and see how it goes!

Here's some pictures from this last weekend's Auto-X just got them from the photographer for the event, He does some awesome work and has a pretty awesome mini cooper too.

looking at the pictures thou I now see how the tires were rolling. I didn't mess with tire pressure this event but will be watching it closely next event. I've been told that need to make sure they don't roll over to the side wall but how close do y'all like it to be to the edge of the tread?

What pressures were you running, and are you on the OEM tires? I typically run 38 in the front on street tires and 32-34 in the rear. 5.0s are hard on front tires and my normal wear pattern typically wipes away the "edge of tread" markers on most tires I've tried.

Camber bolts do help. Be sure to get OEM Ford ones, as other brands are not Street class legal. Here's a pic of mine from a local event a few months ago, this was on the Eagle F1 G2. The tires are track oriented and the sidewalls are probably stiffer than the P Zeros:

Thanks man! I was really bummed I couldn't make El Toro, my passenger side axle seal started weeping on the last day of the national tour and gave out either sometime on the way home or if I'm lucky in the garage (pool of gear oil on the floor). Didn't have time to get the new parts and get it together for El Toro which I wanted to make sure the axle was strong enough to take a Pro-Solo Launch. The announcer apparently mentioned how he was disappointed he didn't see me running R2 (CP) at the event haha.

I'm not going to be able to make it up north, cost is too high for me and the lack of e85 around doesn't help my case. I already have my flight, hotel, and transportation booked for Lincoln in September though. Sponsors want to see me out there with the best. Hopefully you can make it out there as well!

Yes factory tires. I started at 38psi all 4 corners. The only time I checked it was after all 6 runs and was at 42-43psi. This next event I was planning on starting at 38psi front and 34 in the rear and chalk the side wall and see where my roll over is after each run as the tires heat up.

How much camber can these cars get stock? I don't drive this car a lot around town so doubt maxing out the stock camber capabilities will wear out the inside edge faster than racing every month.

Stock, not much, like a fraction of a degree. You can loosen the strut tower bolts and wiggle the mounts inward. With camber bolts, maybe -1.7. I definitely noticed better turn in with the bolts installed.

I have no experience running the OEM tires but our reigning FS national champion ran his at local events until they were bald, I can ask him. But I bet he was around 38-40.
