well if the shaft is loose im gona say its probly worn
 
100 plus parts and shipping.. shipping round trip would be proly 75 each way and whatever parts need redone...if the gears are good and the shafts are good i would just replace the syncros/blocking rings and reshim it to get rid of all the end play. the blocking ring kit is like 40 so assuming it is just a worn out tranny proly be about 300-350including parts and shipping..
 
sell the aod and but a really good rebuild kit and let **** do it...lol
thats not nice :( but no dont buy the rebuild kit.. they come with alot of usless parts they charge u for and they are like 200 and u only need 40 worth of parts from it.. ill order them after i take it apart and inspect everything..

i was talking beefing it up a lil....
 
input shaft is suppose to have a little play up and down. That does not mean its worn out at all
shaft play meaning u push the input shaft and the tail shaft moves.... there is a spec if there is any endplay that is not good..

things to look for from the outside

throwout bearing retainer damaged/worn badly.not smooth
input shaft tip(where it mates to the pilot bearing) damaged worn chipping pitting,anything other than smooth..

end play can really only be done with a dial gauge..
