I cant beleive everything Im reading about going to a 9" rearend for a 600-700HP street car or 35 Spline thats rediculous guys come on. Just stop everything right here for a minute and get back to the 31 spline because thats going to be more thn enough for a street/track car by far. I have a friends and I myself have been making over 600RWHP and have NEVER broken and axle. Your not going to hook on the street anyhow and if you do youll be fine. Carbon clutch kit coupled with a Moser 31 spline forged axle has been known to holding down the cobras for years as well as us highly moddified 2V cars.

Yeah, 31 spline will be fine. Myself, I have 35 spline axles with a Moser spool. Only reason I have that setup is that it came with my donor car. If I had to redo it I would go with something other than the spool. Not very street friendly to say the least

This is relative to my interests. This is about the power level I'm wanting to run and mine will be mostly street driven, too.

I can say one thing that might help you in some way. I don't think you'll need to go to 35 spline and 31 would probably be fine. A buddy of mine had a Fox with a turbo'd 302 running 600rwhp with 28 spline axles. He was running a C4 and not a TKO600, but that might help you out a bit.
The TKO is going to be MUCH harder on the drivetran than a C4 which is why I mentioned it being a stick car.

Call the guys at Currie for advice. They probably sell a 9" rear that will solve all problems. I run a 35 spline Dana 60 in my jeep from Solid axle as well. I know if you are offroading with an 8.8 the you want to weld the tubes to the housing. Also, chromoly 31 spline shafts should hold for you as far as I know. If you are worried about carrier strength look into ARB air lockers. Open diff for the street and locker for the track. They are extremely strong carriers.
They do but it's 4 grand and only supports a 4 link. I'm going to be running a MM torque arm.

Lots of random thoughts in this thread...not trying to burst your bubble but 600 hp isn't that crazy. Run a nice set of 31 spline axles and don't worry about it.
Oh no absolutely not, but it is enough power to break the **** outta things if not built right haha. I've seen cars not break axle's but when they pull them out they're like pretzels and the owner never knew they twisted them and thought they were fine.

I'm trying to overbuild my car, I want to be able to enjoy it without worrying about something being a weak point. It's also nice to have room to put down more power should I ever get bored. Just trying to build things once and not have to redo it.:)

I do agree with this based on everything I read on the net. I'll be running 31 spline Strange axles though because they're the only one I have found that offers a setup to retain my factory ABS with 9" ends. I know I don't want c-clips and I also know I don't want the eliminator kit because they tend to flex and leak.

I'm waiting to hear back from Currie now to see if the housing they offer with the 9" ends still has the factory holes on the center section to mount the torque arm I want.

Like others have said, 31 spline setup should be more than sufficient. What the heck are you planning to do, drive on the street in full slicks with a barrel of traction compound in the trunk and launch it at every stoplight? lol.

Also, not having ABS isn't that big of a deal. My '04 came from the factory without it, and I have only almost died like twice. :shiftyeyes

Let's be honest, you're not going to be driving a 600+rwhp car in unfavorable weather conditions anyway. Ditch ABS, put some 31 spline axles in there and go to town. ;)

Im shooting for 600 hp and I won't even worry about my strange posi unit and strange ss 31 spline axles. The only thing I don't like about the strange axels is if you break a stud you have to buy strange studs.

I don't want to post and act like I know because I absolutely do not. But for what its worth, one of my best friends has a TT 1997 Cobra at 701 rwhp, 799 rwtq and hes on stock rear end. Only street driven and runs a 305 drag radial on 18" wheels. And that sucker hooks pretty damn good. He also has a Whipple 2003 cobra, not sure on exact HP but its over 600 rwhp for sure and also has stock rear end. The 03 also has stock trans with no issues. The 97 trans was junk after 3 days of highway pulls Lol!

What I'm worried about are track launches and having a reliable car that I can rip hard on and not worry about breaking. But yes now that you mention it, that also sounds like a good time haha.

I'm actually worried more about the torque than the HP level. TQ is what breaks stuff and I'll be running a boosted higher compression 5.4, so the tq is going to be right up there with the HP.

While I do agree (although the car may see some rain on occasion if I happen to get stuck in it, otherwise yes I do drive my truck in rain/snow), ABS is still nice to have should you get into a bad situation. Locking rear tires can really end bad when the rear comes around. I don't have ABS on my 69 (obviously) and it sucks locking tires up when you don't want to.

I have 31 spline strange axles and twisted them launching off a 2 step. Lots of passes with out a 2 step and no problems. So as long as your not launching of a 2 step 31 spline will be fine. Strange use to make a 33 spline eaton posi , i dont know if they still do, you will have to call and ask. If i had to do it over thats what i would have gotten. Their c-clip eliminators allow you top keep abs.

31 spline moser axles is more than enough. 600rwhp is alot of hp to non car type people but for all of us in todays world - 600rwhp is token for respectable street car.... get to 800rwhp and then you have alot of hp in a street car.

My car ran in the 10's with stock axles. They never broke before I swapped to 31 spine.
Now I run 33 spline. I still have the 31's and stockers.

Same with me...I run a 31 spline traction lock. Has upgraded clutches the I install different than Ford or most others and the highest tension spring. It works awesome and Locks up very hard... With some out of the box Moser axles. I never broke a stock 8.8 axle though. ...I have broken many stock 9" axles in my 67 though.

I have stock axles and rear end & TR3650 with 654 tq and it has held up all summer. I have spec stage 3+ clutch and I am waiting for something to break but nothing yet. It hooks decent but going with some Mickeys next year and will probably wreck something.

They still make the Eaton, but they only offer the 33 spline axles in their race style axle, not a street axle.

Moser doesn't offer anything to retain ABS only Strange does as far as I can find.

We'll I'm beat as far as the housing from Currie. They only offer the truck housing which wont allow me to bolt up my torque arm. Does anyone know of a place that sells the 8.8 with 9" ends already welded on? Or know of a place that can press new tubes into my current housing?
