Ok i have a 2001 mustang gt with a romeo block with dished piston the block got messed up so i got one from a 2002 crown vic it had npi heads and flat top pistons

Will this effect my build in any way i know the compression will change but anything i else i should know before i start to put it together

who told you that about the 02 crown vic? That should be the exact same engine as a mustang, PI heads and dished pistons

Yes, ford began putting the pi in crown vics and f150s in 2001. Have you seen the "02" shortblock in person yet or still just browsing around?

Trucks got them in 99 I believe when they went to the COP'S and ditched the plug wires

Yeah i have one opend up it its suposed to be a 2002 i was confused to with make me think that its not the original block or heads but i just got the pair of good pi head today for 45 buck from junkyard and i dont know if i should send them to get resurfaced

But yeah it had flat top pistons and npi heads Is this ok for my mustang gt and around how much compression would i make

PI heads on a NPI short block yets 11.5ish compression. Which is fine for pump gas and a nice gain in hp when coupled with a list of bolt ons

Im just trying to rebuild a motor cuz mine broke a piston and the block got preaty messed up so im trying to put a junk yard block looks like in good condition i already have the block striped down to just the bare block when i got it it had npi head and it does have flat top pistond

I was missing a pi head so i just went to junk yard and got one of a c/v my other head got busted because of the piston

I dont think its the original motor for that Crown vic but watever aslong as it works im fine with it and i dont know if i should resurface the heads and block and what the cost would be cuz im on a thight budget

A busted head from a piston? That must have been one hell of a catestrophic engine failure.

So basically you're cobbling together a junkyard NPI shortblock and using Crown Vic PI engine for heads? Then it's just a run of the mill PI swap, and the Crown Vic is identical to the Mustang 4.6. Hell, I've got a P-71 Interceptor out of a Crown Vic in mine right now. (But not for long :shiftyeyes)

And by resurfacing I'm assuming you're meaning decking? If it looks in good shape you probably don't need to have it decked. Same goes for honing the bore. It all depends on what kind of shape its in. If it's clean enough you might not need them at all.

a 2v 4.6 is a 2v 4.6. Any parts from any era will work on the block, whether its from 96 or 2006

The npi motor uses a 11cc dish piston. The pi motor uses a 17cc dish piston. A pi swapped npi motor makes 10.5:1 compression with a standard bore and stroke. If you use the flat top pistons your CR will be considerably higher. You will most likely need to get them flycut to avoid PTV issues.

Do not use a wire brush to clean your cylinder walls. Go to harbour freight tools and get a cylinder hone.

PI swap on a NPI short block doestn have PTV its close but there isnt any.

no, you only take like .002 or so to clean them up unless you really fubared them up.

my motor is out of a 2001 f150 all non mustang cars got the PI motors the year after the mustang did in 1999 so any 2000 motor should have em
