Bama Tunes... anyone else having intake issues?

I've ordered four or five tunes now from Bama and every single time they've gotten the intake wrong. Each time, the tune defaults and says I have an air raid intake, and so my tune is all jacked up. I called today and they're acting like they've never heard of this issue, when I personally have complained about it each time I order a tune. I then confirm that the intake is listed correctly, and then they send me the wrong tune again. They correct it, but it's always wrong the first time.

So I've complained about it four times, and a member of my mustang club has had a similar problem. I'd like to hear from y'all if this is something that y'all experience as well?

And Nasty, before you chime in about Justin from VMP, I'm doing it now. I was going to do it before, but I didn't think I was going to need another tune before my sc, but then I got a sweet deal on LT's.

Y'all let me know if I'm crazy or they're full of ****.

the strategy tunes are the canned ones that you can customize at will. they have a lot more options. when you go to CAI it probably lists them in alphabetical order so naturally air raid is going to be at the top. the custom tune is the one they write for you and there are fewer options to change on that. it wont show your cai or exhaust or any of that. just spark, rev limiters, speed limiters, gears, tire size, and a/f ratio. there may be something else i forgot.

I was confused when i got mine about it too. my car wont run off the strategy tunes. dont know why. once the rpm's hit 1500 it stalls or cuts the gas and the security light comes on.

I didn't want to pay for new tunes and wait on Justin each time I did a mod. Free tunes was the easier option at the time. Now that I'm done with bolt on's I'm going to go to VMP for my final tune until I get my vortech put on, then I'll get a dyno tune locally.

I'm not talking about the strategy tune. I meant the tune they write for you.

It's frustrating to have to get it corrected but not really a big deal. What's aggravating the heck out of me is them acting like its the first time that's ever happened when it's happened every time to me. So I was just wondering if anyone else had the problem.

I didn't have an issue with mine, but went to custom tune and loaded what they sent me. I had issues with the older firmware, but upgraded online and it works just fine now. Had to reload their custom tunes on there, but never had an issue, brother. I would talk to Bama directly and have them walk you through the process, brother. They know their stuff.

I've talked to them each time. They correct it each time. But Everytime I need a new tune, it's ****ed up again. It's the craziest thing.

Ha! I just talked to Ryan at Bama and he fixed it. Then closed out and reopened my file and it switched intakes again. At least I'm not crazy.

Handheld tuner memory screwed up, maybe? Wierd.

I've had no issues but I don't have as many mods as you. Shouldn't matter though. I would think putting the right CAI would not be a problem. Sorry to hear about that man.

My tunes ended up being for the Airaid intake also...

...But I run the Roush intake which is the Airaid intake with the "Roush" label on it, so my tunes ran fine.

I did not put it in so many words when I wrote about my code problems after the header and O/R install a little while back, but I did have problems with the tune. Drove me nuts for a while but finally realized that to they forgot to turn of the rear sensors, after I called and made sure that I did put the right info on the form. It was not a bid deal, and still is not, but none the less an error on their part. New tune should be in to day, crossing my fingers. This is not a bash on BAMA, just consumer reporting.

I got 3 new custom tunes from them this week and ran an 87 street for emissions and I got a check engine with lean codes. I emailed them and they gave me a new one the next morning. I am now running the performance and it is much better than any tune I have run before. Even my(auto) shift points and hardness are perfect. They are busy as crap can you imagine how many stangs a day they tune. They are bound to make a few mistakes here and there. Its how they respond to the mistakes in a timely manner like they have that makes them one of the best tuner companies out there.

Zero problems with my BAMA tune here. I paid twice as much as a single VMP tune, and I get infinite tunes. I have been through at least 20 tunes with the changes I have made to the car and the different octane levels I got maps for. I have never waiting more than 18 hours for my tune files, and I have had them show up in about 4 hours twice. I think that annoys the VMP people, as it shoots a hole in their idea that Justin is the only capable tuner and that BAMA sucks. :lol

I was going to try the VMP tune just to check it out, but the website isnt secure, and charging a handling fee for an email tune is a load of ****. I dont care if its 3 bucks. I am 100% sure his tunes are great. But I am also 100% sure my BAMA tunes have been more than fine.

14 mpg does seem awfully low but 24 seems pretty nice. I mean I got 15.5 mpg with a little mix of driving about 70% city.

I can't speak for anyone else but myself but that doesn't bother me one bit. Justin is a one man show in regards to tuning. American Muscle has like 5 or 6 guys writing value file tunes which works for the majority of Mustang owners. I'm sure it doesn't bother VMP either since Justin is always super busy. There are maybe a handful of tuners in the country that I'd let touch my vehicle and VMP Tuning is obviously my choice. At least you don't own a F150 and think that Mike Troyer is a God. Those guys wait 8 months for a email tune... Yet we have people complaining about a couple of weeks. :lmao

Its not that they say it directly, but some definitely infer it.

I will say this, I have noticed that in some cases, they just dont get it right, over and over. Its strange that for some cars they nail it every time, and for others with seemingly the same mods, they cant get it right to save their lives.

I am still going to give VMP a shot at some point. When I get around to it. Ill report back with a comparison when I do :) I don't have anything against VMP. Also the MPG thing is appealing. I get like 24 on the highway if I keep it at 70. But around town I get like 14. So it would be nice to get that up even 2mpg.

Reading this "debate" about tunes, and who's tune is better, and what not...

I happen to look over at Nasty's avatar, and it just all makes sense....

Kind of an inside joke, those who know where I stand and why will get it...

LOL

Im going to give VMP a call to place the order when I get around to it.

If I can get the city mpg up by even 2mpg that would be great.

This will probably be what I get if I ever get around to checking it in the city, maybe in April once I get her back on the rode. I'm probably one of the angriest drivers on the planet. I drive that bitch like I stole her every time I get in it.

I'll put it this way...I have put mine in 5th gear at 50 mph on a straight bit of road seeing upwards of 39.6 mpg before I took it off of cruise control, and make LOADS of power when I mash the go-pedal down compared to canned tunes from Diablosport. On my current SCT XF3 I'm only running the 89 Octane tune at the time...still haven't tried the 93, heh. Yes, I said 39.6 and I have photos to prove it, as no one ever believes me. I still get 24 mpg @ 80+mph on the interstate, as well. That's Bama's tunes. I have yet to try anyone else and until I need to, never plan to, ya know? I will not trash-talk any other tuner, but can say I have always had GREAT customer service with Bama. All I know is it works, my baby will get down and drink gas doing it, but can be conservative as hell when I need her to. My hwy/city drive to work with all the red lights amuck and crap traffic occasionally still nets me an average of 23 mpg. 'Nuff said on Bama's tunes!

#29 ·
that is INSANE.

Combined I get like 16

Around town purely its 14ish, it not 13. Straight highway I get 24ish, which I am happy with.

My 4 cyl subaru got 20 highway and 17 city, but it also weighed 300lbs less, was AWD and put down close to 500whp (and made my mustang feel miserably slow :( )

Man I gotta tell you, I just find that hard to believe. You can say what you want, and I can coast on the freeway and my MPG will say 39 MPG if I reset it and don't hit the gas. It sounds like you're just saying that to say Bama's tunes are the best or whatever. And I hear what your're saying about Bama's customer service, but they ****ed my tune up every time. The customer service was great when I called to complain. But why not just correct the problem the first time and be done with it.

I'm calling bullshit though on 39 miles to the gallon while you're set on cruise control or whatever.

#31 ·
Cruise control is actually a piss poor way to get the best MPG. Rubber banding does a lot better. Seriously close to a 25% increase over cruise control.

Cruise control does the worst thing on downhills AND up hills. It backs off the gas on downhills and gives it a LOT more gas on uphills.

Use a little more (light) throttle on downhills to build a little momentum, then DO NOT GIVE IT MORE GAS as you go up hill, yes, you will slow down. You will speed back up on the flat and on the next downhill.

Up your tire pressure in the front, go to Agent 47 mirrors or ditch the passenger mirror altogether, lose the trunk spoiler, go to a skinnier front tire, go to a shorty antenna or none at all, skin the underside of your car as much as you can. All of those things help. But your right foot makes the biggest difference.
Unfortunately, around town, there isnt much you can do. But highway, you can get it up there.

But 39mpg on a 4.6 V8 is, well I dont want to call you a liar, but there is no way in hell you are actually getting that.

#33 ·
Oh I bet I could make one do it. It wouldnt look much like a mustang by the time I built the front end and boat tail, and shaved the mirrors and all emblems and skirted the fender openings :lol

Also completely gut it, tune it WAY down maybe even find a milder than stock cam from another modular.
