Hello everybody, i havent been on here for too long but thought i would share what unfortunatley happend to my project, sadly. Yesterday while driving i notice a strong smell of gasoline so i just thought i was running rich since the car just got back on the streets because i had just got done changing the heads with GT40, trick flow intake and N41 cam and was just getting money for the dynotune. Anyways after noticing the smell of fuel i thought bout pulling over on the next gas station but before i could do that, on the red light the driver next to me told me there were flames on the passanger side so i got off the car to look and sure enough, so i ran back to the car thru my side to get my mom off the car because she was riding with me; so the flames started to be more visible as the fiberglass hood melted away and the windshield, then the fire dept. showed up and Bye Bye to my Baby. Pretty much everything melted, even the lip on the throttle body and part of the casing on the alternator, wire insulation, hoses every thing is gone:cry:

Well since most of the wires and other stuff in the engine compartment melted i would be looking into replacing the wiring harness, fuse block etc.. so im still in shock cant belive it.. And well to my luck, last year i got in a car accident and the insurance declared the car a total loss so it had a rebuilt title so i dont think we're getting anything back, and as for the cause im leaning towards one of the fuel lines for the fuel rail but again who know... i wander if it would take too much money to make it just a drag car, like just having the wiring for the engine and take out whats not needed from the engine bay....I kinda dont want to get rid of if because it still has a lot good parts on it but im gonna have to make the decision soon..what would you guys do, drag car ..or juck yard car

Yea ive been trying to stay up but i just feel like crap..been thinking about the car all day, i feel like i dont even want to work on cars no more but i love getting dirty working on them to much so hopefully after getting the next ride ill get over it....And yes man, imagine if i would've made it to to the gas station or had a NOS system in there like i was planning for next month, but the man upstairs was watching out for me and my mom

Im sorry this happened to you and cant even begin to imagine something like that, let alone how you felt watching that. Id be beside myself balling like a baby if it were mine. Youre ok, moms ok. Thats what counts. Youre better off starting fresh with a new mustang with a fire like that. The electrical damage alone is reason enough. Pull what you can and give the old girl a proper send off.

Theres another mustang out there, somewhere, waiting for you. Go find her and bring her home. And have fun all over again.

Man, that sucks! Sorry dude! I was in a similar boat as you a few years ago. I was driving my dads '59 Buick Invicta to work at the time, and one day a co-worker came up to me inside and told me my car was on fire. I laughed at him and continued working. He was the clown at work, so i though he was just screwing with me. He said, "No, dude, seriously, your car is on fire..." By that time, i was getting worried, so i went outside to look and long behold. Smoke was bellowing out of every seam and rust hole in that thing, but i couldn't see any flames! And the lights were flashing and the horn was honking, and some girls that were at sonic right next door were screaming and crying. No joke. So i ran over to it and popped the hood, and main part of the wiring harness that comes right out of the firewall was on fire and mostly melted. I put it out and checked the damage. ALL the wiring was fried. Turned out that a relay stuck open which allowed the battery power to flow the opposite direction causing to wires to heat up and then short out. We spent that winter re-wiring the WHOLE car. It SUCKED... But thankfully I got the fire put out before it got to the fuel line, which was right above the wires. If it would have gone on fire, it probably would have burned down the building i parked by, which happened to be a lumber store. That would have burned well. Anyways, best of luck to ya. I'd just sell what you can off of it and go from there.

Buy another one just like it that's bone stock and swap over whatever you can salvage. I did this with my first fox, some one rear ended it so i bought another one with a blown motor and swapped it over. Then i recycled the rest of the car and bought a new cam. Takes time, but it's the closest you'll get to recovering the money you've spent.
