So I always hated trusting the stock gauges, and noticed my volt meter was always low (see other thread on why) so I decided to install a digital voltmeter. I installed it in the pocket underneath the stereo. Dremeled out a spot and clipped it in! I bought this.
NEW RED LED Panel Voltage Meter Mini Digital Voltmeter DC 0V TO 99 9V Motorcycle | eBay
Soldered the red and yellow wires together into a single wire that was split by a switch. Grounded the black one. Then ran the red/yellow wires from the switch to the top post on the alternator. That way I can turn it on or off, and leave the pocket still functional. I'd like another for water temp and oil pressure beside it. Here's a bad black berry picture of it so you get the idea. (beat up phone hahaha)

The car was off, I was just sitting in it listening to the music, but can still watch the battery voltage. Then when its on, obviously reads the alternator output.
