Looking to buy another car, owner swears its 4.6, but only 5.0s were made that year. Other than looking up the vin, is there a way to visually determine which engine it is? Thanks

the 4.6 will be wide as all hell, looks as wide as a big block and if it is a 5.0, it usually has that retarded ass top hat big ass intake manifold. A 5.0 will also have a distributor sticking up in the middle in the front/top of engine. A 4.6 won't have the dizzy sticking up there.
The difference between the two engines is night and day. If you can't tell by looking at them then you need to bring someone that knows what he/she is looking at with you when look at cars.
lol, youre actually right
visually, what i'd look for is the distributor, that would be a dead give away, or, the intake manifold. if it's plastic, 4.6 (unless it's a bullitt), if metal, it's a 5.0. usually the intake will say 5.0 on the cover plate up top.
Either the owner doesn't have much idea of it or he is lying. You can ask for the snaps of documents and another snap of engine. Or you can check it yourself after visiting their.
