So...over the Thanksgiving weekend I rounded a curve only to find someone almost dead stopped turning into a side road. Normally it would have been a simple "hit the brakes and slow down" situation, except that as I hit my brakes my front passenger tire happened to slam into a break in the pavement (I didn't know this until a day after the wreck when we went back to check out the area and saw the skid marks.) Long story short, I managed to correct just enough to keep from hitting the other vehicle and a telephone pole and shot myself off the road into a ditch. A rough ride and two trees later this is the result. (It makes me sick to look at these pictures. :puke ) Luckily no one was hurt and the car looks MUCH worse than it is. The damage is almost completely cosmetic, no frame damage, no engine damage as far as we know, and I was told the car will most likely be able to be repaired back to normal. I had already planned to upgrade the suspension over the winter to help with wheel hop, but since I will already have it on the rack I guess my timeline has been pushed up.

Blessings have been counted, believe me, I was more worried about the folks in the other car when it happened. Metal can be replaced, people can't. Unfortunately they were either oblivious to the fact I had wiped out behind them or just didn't want to stop. The steering wheel airbag and side airbag in the seat on the drivers side both deployed and were VERY effective. I walked away with very minor airbag burns on my wrist and left side.

Holy crap. Glad you're fine though man, these cars hold up wonderfully well. Just looking and taking a rough guess, $14k in damage. It'll be a tough call as to whether they'll total it or fix it, IMO.

I was told it would not be a total loss unless some unknown damage is found. The car is being torn down currently to make sure, so I'm in limbo until I find out. Luckily I have a spare vehicle and my insurance company guarantees any repairs made for as long as I own the car. I plan on filing a depreciation claim for the lost value as well.

If it's not totaled I'm looking at BMR for the suspension upgrades. Shocks, lowering springs, LCA's and relocation brackets, and possibly a new UCA. Any other recommendations for a street only car?

You pretty much hit the nail on the head. Koni Yellow Shocks/struts, BMR Springs, LCA's/relos, adj UCA/mount, adj panhard bar. That's the minimum to do it right.

As far as the insurance deal, log every phone call and email along with a brief description of what the conversation is about. You'll likely need to get an appraisal from an appraisal company that has no affiliation with any insurance companies in order to get the depreciated value check. More than worth it though. Paid $150 for my appraisal in order to get a $1800 check when I was sideswiped.

Hey guys,
I wanted to give a quick update on my Stang situation. The insurance company is not totaling my car (it was a close thing though.) It is being repaired by a fairly reputable local shop, the repairs are guaranteed through the insurance company for as long as I own the car, and the parts are already on order. There was somehow no damage to the unibody and the shop says they should be able to get it back to as good as factory condition with a month to month and a half time frame on the repairs. I'm going to try to visit the shop weekly and get some pictures of the progress and of course post them here. I am wondering what effect the wreck and repairs will have on my factory warranty since the repairs are being made with 100% OEM parts. If anyone has any experience with this please chime in and let me know.

Shouldn't have any effect.

Holy tits. 1-1.5 months?!? They must only be working on it a couple hours a day or are way behind. Shouldn't take more than 3 weeks max.

Unless they're adding in additional time for the dealing with BS insurance crap. My repairs took 4 business days..but took 7 weeks because the guy who hit my had Crapstate insurance who wanted to do things the cheap way, then had to pay to redo it the right way.
