DSS, CHP, JPC, Brenspeed, Livernoise...But the best way to go IMO is find a good local builder.
Is MMR considered overpriced or cheap? They said they could make me a engine to handle 600 HP cammed, with ported heads for $4500 or so. Could I get that from somewhere else?

Their engines never meet the capabilities they advertise and usually grenade long before ever meeting the max hp level. Then you gotta fight with them over whos fault it was. In the end youll probably buy another companies motor. Bypass that now.

I'm asking if i can find a similar motor for the same price?

probably the only off the shelf motor id consider is brenspeed.
So basically to find a motor for my $4500 budget am i just better off buying a stock crate motor without anything done to it from Jasper?

Your best bet (unless you windowed your block) would be to rebuild the existing block with a stroker crank. Typical options are 289 or 302 with the aluminum 4.6 block. If you want bigger than that then you'll have to use an iron block and can go to a 323 or 326. You're fine to order the parts from MMR and have a local person build it, but I would never order a short or long block from them.

Just food for thought: Don't you find it a bit odd that most people pay $2k for ported heads alone if they provide their existing heads, yet MMR claims to be able to build yours for $4500 WITH ported heads? They have to make money somewhere.

If rebuilding your existing block is out of the question then just find a local person selling the motor out of their wrecked car for a few bucks and drop it in and be done with it. You can find a complete long block for roughly a grand.

What did the shop say about your current motor? You haven't told us what they discovered when they opened it up. I'm assuming it is toast if your looking to buy a new engine.

Exactly lol

Who would you suggest then?
RGR engines or L&M engines. Two of the best in the business.

RGR out of chicago builds JPCs engines. JPC will assemble off the shelf stuff in house though.
He moved to Indiana, I forget where but I will have to check to see the place where I shipped my heads. I do remember it started with an M though lol.

Exactly lol
How are your heads?

The B-326 from Brenspeed I mentioned earlier would be a really good option. Also, STAY THE **** AWAY FROM MMR. Where are you not going to buy a shortblock from?

I don't recall if JDM still sells their 302E blocks but there are a couple of people on S197 running them with good success.

If you are having everything done including the labor, I would consider Brenspeed.

Call them and see if they can do what you want for 8 grand. I would do the B302 Stroker using my existing aluminum block instead of the iron block B326.

Without boost, that iron block will make the car more of a pig despite the potential it has.

Brenspeed's long block costed like $7k

So get the shortblock and swap everything over. Or as mentioned talk to JPC about having RGR build you an engine I would talk to Aaron or Tommy or Eric about it and see what they have to say. If there is 1 area to not cheap out, it is your motor especially when it blew.

Here, join S197forum and read this thread. It literally has everything you would ever need to know about building a 3V. Part numbers for literally everything in the motor needing replacing, torque specs for everything that is a nut or bolt, and very nice detailed pictures of everything being done.

I didn't realize these engines were so expensive.
They're not. They are if you want them built and reliable.

Remember the three:
Fast
Reliable
Inexpensive
You can only have two of the three. And sometimes only one.

hes just trying to get extra posts in to list on the classifieds, dont feed the troll lol

If it is the same damage as my car, blown oil pump, then it's the heads need to be replaced or ported out. For me the cost was with shipping back and forth 1100. This was with Tasca ford by the way. The ford racing CnC heads cost me just under $1400 so I went that route. I still have the sheets of what they did. I'll take a picture and put it up. I am sure I will get laughed at but the time that it happen to me was a bad time. Death in family, fiancé in hospital etc plus work I said just do it and bill me. Not the best way of negotiating but I wanted my car and this was before ford start selling the coyote engines in crates. The model was just starting to come out.
My point the engine can be rebuilt but it is not worth it if you can swap in a coyote.. Even with the labor and wiring it has to be about the same cost. Also if you looking for an engine go on craiglist Boston there is a guy selling one with under 40k miles. I saw it up there last week. That is the way I go if I could but back then engines where a lot more expensive to buy used. The timing of my blown engine was terrible. Wish it happened now instead I would have a lot better options. I am glad I did not junk it I love that car even though with all the money I dropped into it I could have bought a used Shelby gt500. I am a great Monday morning QB
