I would recommend replacing all the bearings and seals as well. While installing gears isn't rocket science, the proper setup is very important to ensure a successful job. Also, some special tools are required to do it and unless you plan on doing a lot of them, it isn't cost-effective to buy them just to do 1 set of gears.

 

I would pay to have the job done. As Twist stated, you need mics to set backlash, etc. It is a good learning experience so if you can watch them do the install, all the better. Change all the bearings and seals while they are in there. Good luck.

 

why staying with a high gear for what youre wanting to do? why not stab a set of 4.10 in. by the time you do all your other mods, youll find great sucess with the 4.10

I would say go with 3.73's...Go ahead and replace all the bearings in the rear; You will already have access to them all so just put all new ones in for sake of mind...I would also recommend paying someone to install them...Gears can be tricky and they need to be set up right or it will be all kinds of badtimes...

dont forget u will need also a speedo gear, so that ur speedometer wont be off while driving

 

yeah thats true my friend has a trans am and he didnt get a speedo gear and it says hes going like 65 when were going like 30

FRPP gears can be found for around $170 & $100 for the install kit. Axle bearings around $50-60. The gear oil depending on which brand you get anywhere from $3/qt to $15+/qt.

Labor prices vary widely due to location, overhead, etc.... The shops here in town get $275-$400 but I don't have the "overhead" they do, and do them for $150-$175. (Now you see why some of the shop owners hate me )
