hey guys my intake manifold is cracked and i have a p.i. one coming in the mail. ive looked the the sticky, so i have a 1998 4.6 so i heard i dont need the nipple. thats cool. but my car has a shortblock that was made in 2008 thats not gonna change anything with the swap will it?

and the one im getting only has a plastic crossover. cant afford much more right now. so how do i tap in?

your going to need the line that runs up the middle of the intake. get on Mustang Parts & Performance - American Muscle and look at the sticky they have the part number from ford most dealerships carry a few in stock and its about 35 doallars. without this the intake wont sit low enough to bolt down.

You may want to check around for the water pipe and the PI gaskets. I have read a few times that the earlier PI years maybe different parts and lower prices. I just install the intake and it was 35 for gaskets and 42 for the water pipe. Good luck with your swap. And if you get 3/8 NPT tee and closed end threaded nipple you can run both temp sensors from the one tapped hole.

really confused me. whats NPT?

NPT = national pipe thread, its specific thread pitch cut on a taper for sealing. Most things plumbing related are with NPT.

Yeah the coolant tube is a must. It redirects it to the side so the deeper PI intake will fit in the block.

I didnt tap my crossover for the coolant sensor. I just took my old crossover off the NPI intake and used that. No tapping required. Its the same thing

i am getting the hose but is that the same as this line? this is dumb because it doesnt even mention this line in the american muscle necesity for parts

so do i need any other tubes? lol

omg it just came in the mail and im so psyched oh and guess what? it has the aluminum piece on it and i didnt even know it was going to have one, love getting stuff from users here. best 40$ haha :)

Haha no that tube is the only tube you need... They call it all kinds of different names. But its the coolant tube in the valley of the block.

The write up on AM tells you everything thats needed. Its a piece of cake!!!!!

thanks again sharkbait. got manifold off, now just put towels in the runners so i dont worry bout **** getting in there. gonna take a break and start working and cleaning later tonight. um another question, on my old manifold i had another gasket on top of the manifold and the new p.i doesnt have another gasket on top of one. i know it comes with a replacement one that i already put on there.

man, now im stuck on this water pump, so you gotta take off the 4 outside bolts to the pulley? they r being a pain

it is easier to take out those bolts if the belt is left on till ya break them loose so it wont spin as bad you can use your hand and just put a bit more pressure on it to hold it still just dont take them all the way out till after ya take off the belt
