Curious how many of you can honestly say you put the hurt on an LS1 Camaro or Trans Am?...And Im not just talking about stock ones. I ask because I am in the market for a new toy, and I have had an LT1 Z28 my bro has a 99 Trans Am, pals have 99GT and 88 5.0. The thing is, I see how much my friend with the 99 has done, and he can barely shake off an LT1...whats its take fellas? I am not here to piss you guys off...as I too appreciate these cars, as I might buy one. I just want to hear it from those in the know...give me some reasons to get a 4.6 instead of an LS1...Thanks Alot...

i've never lost to one. lol

Ill be honest I like the ls1 because they make good power the 4.6 is fast but needs alot of mods to be a contender unless you have a cobra 03-04 but the ls1 without the supercharger is not far behind a cobra but the reason why I got a 4.6 is one no V8 sounds better than a mustang definietly one with no cats and two this was more affordable than an ls1 and with the difference between the money I can now crush an ls1 but If I had the money I get a cobra or a WS6 trans am they are very attractive cars! :D

i can honestly say i can take most ls1. i used to have a 99 trans am it was a badass. to make a gt fast, it really takes some kind of power adder, such as nitrous, or forced induction. you might think its expensive but they give about the same kinda power for the price that ls1 mods will do. i have a built motor with big heads and cams and have taking a 05 gto with cam, torque converter, and full exhuast. that was with 340 rwhpouta my stang. now after i do the twin turbos its gonna take a lot for anything to touch my car. but ls1 is still a badass.

Yea..I hear you guys about everything. Here is my exact comparison that I 1st hand get to see...my friends vs bro... 99GT M5 ..TB..Elbow..ORH..CatBack..Underdrive Pulleys..CAI..3.73s.. VS 99 Trans Am, Lid, CatBack 3.23s.....The GT gets smoked, and my buddy can drive...he gets out of the hole ok, but then the LS1 just takes him down by the time he gets to the end of 2nd....I mean...My LT1 didnt fair much better than his GT..But what is the major thing that kills my friends stang? Are even PI heads so so at best?...LS1s just breath deep...no matter what mph you are at....if you cant tell I battle inside because I love the sound and style of stangs, but I love the style and power of the LS1s...decisions decisions... :dunno

both cars have there advantages. mustangs need a power adder and the ls1 cars you need to put a new rear end in. i personally like the style of mustangs a lot better.

well ill tell you this to. a mustang will run faster with less horsepower. im running low 12 with 305 rwhp on the track.

a fully ported out set of pi heads, will barely outflow a set of stock ls1 heads. chevy hit a home run wiht those engines. thats why it tkaes some force to get the modular motor to breath. but they take very well to forced induction

the one thing i've noticed nobody mentioned is displacement. you all know the old saying. facts are facts. our love for the mustang doesn't change the fact we are 1.1L behind from the get go. that being said, the price difference comes into play. besides, making the car faster is half the fun (for me anyway)! yes, i can take an LS1 with my 99GT in the 1/4 mile. top end is another story. like you said, those freakin' things just breathe! something else that made me choose my GT, i looked at an SS and TA, is the rattle factor. who can honestly say they've been in either F-body and it didn't rattle and ride like a buckboard? the ones i drove brand new were nowhere near the ride in the GT. oh yeah, another thing is aerodynamics. you can only push so much air and still gain speed. sorry for being long winded, but it's not a simple answer. not for me anyway. good luck. enjoy whatever you buy.

i can but i have my hands full with some that have desent amount of mods. i havent ran one yet with the bottle but that is soon to come. i am a f-body fan, it was the wifes idea to get a stang. i give the mustang a whole new respect after i own one.

Pretty sure I wont have any issues with them...

untill you roll up on one with heads, cam and a **** ton of nitrous. then your in for an ass whoopin.

#12 ·
The ls1 is a crazy ass engine stock i love them. My friend has a stock 98 z28 and its just bad ass. Now the looks of a camaro have nothing on the stangs i dont care what anyone says. Also ls1 sound like **** nothing to the sound of a mustang! Both cars have advantages but you can always make your stang faster then a ls1 but never make your ls1 look better then a stang. My opinion

i will be putting a hurtin on them in the very near future :D

yeah pretty much everyone here is correct I would say the 99-04 is a beautiful car I love the mystic cobras and the saleen look its got nice lines on it and like I said earlier nothing shakes the pavement like a mustang roaring pass you but the ls1 are very respectable being that no stock gt new or old can take them. They both have pros and cons this might sound funny but 2 me the mustang is batman just never dies(its the tool belt)lol and the ls1 are like superman extremely powwerful but have that kryptonite problem its called 5.7 liters GASSSSSSS money! lol :D

I have beaten more than I have lost to at the track. I have a buddy with WS6 that I can run circles around. :D I have to give the disclaimer on that last comment, his car is stock down to the paper air filter. My car.....well, let's just say my car is not stock.

That being said, I would love to add a WS6 or SS to my collection. :pimp

I think I will look more seriously into a 99-04 Mustang...As far as engines and trannys go, are all the 99-04 GTs the same?...Or are certain years more desirable then others? I really need to look at getting the best overall car when I get it, and I think I can get a cleaner lower miles GT than LS1 car for the same money....in fact I KNOW I can...just looking to get the facts before I buy.

99-01 (mid 01) have the T45 tranny...The 01 (later mid-year) have the tremec 3650...I prefer the tremec...

Both are 5 speeds? I assume the tremec is a bit more stout?
yeah, the tremecs are more stout and alot stronger, they're some of the best trannys out there

My car has the Tremec T45 6-speed. Those r the same trannys that dodge put in some of the vipers, I dont know which years, so that right there tells u that theyre dependable for high power sports cars, I looked them up and the tremec website said they were in some of the vipers and in one or two Aston Martin models

+1 I can confirm that the 4.6's respond very well to boost, lol, the terminator engines make 400+ hp with just 8-10 psi, I look forward to goin to a smaller pulley and runnin more boost

I can take one with the e-brake on :dunno

Get a blower and they'll need a poweradder to keep up.
+1 My cobra is stock right now, and a few people told me that I can beat SS's and WS6's with my stock hp with traction and a good launch. I hope thats 100 percent true. So far Ive beaten 1 WRX sti, I Evo, 2 GTO's but I havent had a chance to race a SS or a WS6 or a C6. Those r the ones I wanna challenge. According to Modernracer.com the C6 Vettes and my car both run 12.6-12.7 in the quarter. Thats awesome with the vettes costing 8,000 more dollars brand new in those years.

your cobra has a t56 6 speed. its a very good transmission especially if you get it built to viper spec. i also prefer the tremec 3650 over the t45.
