How to make my gas gauge work

So when I bought my car it had an aftermarket fuel tank.....

My question is that the fuel gauge does not work at all, it just shows empty all the time with the low fuel light on. Does anyone have any good ideas how to make this thing work again?? At first it didnt bother me but the thought of running out of gas down the highway sorta eats the back of my mind now every time I take it out of town.

well obviously from looking at the photo you're gas tank is much bigger than stock (and should be painted black!). so with a larger fuel tank you need a larger sending unit than stock one. the sending unit is a float, usually foam and that is connected to a long/thin metal rod that goes up and down and you use gas. that piece is probably broken and isnt sending any data.
