Here you go. Remember that if you cut a whole you have to make sure that you secure the insulator blanket to hood. I used a piece of rubber hose, you can use a some black duct tape or something that matches the insulator blanket.

I considered doing that. I am just worried about the portion that is behind the cut out ripping out.

Nice Post!

Hey, finally joined up after looking at numerous Mustang sites. I've been doing this stuff for 25 years or so.

I have a '99 Mustang GT with no scoop. Since I'm running a Vortech T-Trim and Aftercooler plus a Fox Lake P-51 Intake, there's a lot of heat soak under that congested hood. I plan on getting the stock scoop and I'll cut out the largest hole that I can. This hood will be "functional" because it will release some of the heat that is associated with the supercharger and other stuff. Pretty common sense really.

Rain? I'll make a scoop plug for rain conditions or I'll use a power actuator to make a flap that will open and close - this could be interesting.

The bottom line: Hot Rodders love to change and modify just because it's in our blood. There are numerous Mustang parts that add nothing for performance.

Welcome to MM. And thanks for the input. Sounds like you have a nice Mustang. Don't forget to post on some of the first time members threads. And post some pictures! We would all Love to see that S/C!

I would do this, but my only fears are that the engine would be hard to keep clean and the amount of water that would get in.

Im still considering it, but like said above I would have to make a plug for wet weather.

Thank you for the warm welcome! I plan on opening up the hood very soon. I'll do some temperature testing with the opening and I'll put in a plug to compare temperatures under the same conditions.

If it doesn't work out, I'll just toss the hood and get a cowl hood instead!

I cut my hood scoop because I was bored. I really didn't see the point of having a hood scoop just for looks anyway so I tried to make it "functional"
Now that I cut it out, I think it looks better this way! I don't get much (if any) water in it because it's not my DD so I don't drive it in the rain. If you think that driving you mustang in the rain with an "enclosed" hood make it water proof, you're mistaken. It's an open compartment, there is no bottom barrier to protect the motor from the rain. In the summer time you can see the heat coming out of the hood cut out so there is some function to cutting out the hood scoop. If I were to do it all over again I would do it like the OP did and keep the grill and drill it out. It'll prevent the hood scoop from coning up like mine but I still like the way mine looks better then the stock fake hood scoop.

So I have had the 03 for 2 days now. I was doing some stuff and its looks like the PO already did this, but didnt cut a hole out under the hood. What was he thinking? haha

Wow whats the deal with being so strict on what you can and can not post? I never though that going off topic just that little bit would cause anyone to come in and delete post and or lock the thread up.

But for the topic's sake, I like the idea of it being functional but at the same time i don't like the idea of dirt, rain, dust etc etc getting under the hood. I loved mine being open and lover it even more when the blower thorugh the hood but with the car just sitting there through rain etc and having cops its not the best idea. If it was such a good idea ford would have made them functional :)
