Are their any illegal performance modifications? By illegal i mean on the street. I know nitrous is illegal on the street. is their anything else?

long tubes are considered illegal in some states because they relocate the O2 sensors and that's considered tampering with emissions equipment...
smog pump delete on a street car would also fall into that category...

TITLE 40. MOTOR VEHICLES AND TRAFFIC

ARTICLE 1. EQUIPMENT GENERALLY
PART 1. GENERAL PROVISIONS

O.C.G.A. § 40-8-10 (2007)
§ 40-8-10. Operation of motor vehicles with nitrous oxide; penalty for violation.

(a) It shall be unlawful for any person on a public road to drive a passenger car, excluding a motor home, which supplies the motor vehicle's combustion engine with nitrous oxide unless the system supplying nitrous oxide is made inoperative by disconnecting the line feeding nitrous oxide to the engine or by removing the container or containers of nitrous oxide from the vehicle.

Oh guys and just cause something says 50 state legal does not mean its legal. In more than 48 states aftermarket exhaust that is not factory and is louder than factory is illegal. Any cowl over 2 inches is illegal in most states, pretty much tampering with any of the exhaust is illegal.

mamastang.

the reason they are licensed is becasue here in indiana only 2 counties down south have emmisions laws. we can pretty much do whatever the hell we want to out motors and stuff and not get in trouble. Unless it's tint or neons or rice exhaust most cops around here could care less

once i get my o/r x on if i ever get pulled over i just turn my car off. lol
You can get aftermarket exhuast here in NY too, and if the advertise somethin as 50 legal and its not thats false advertising and you can sue them. Im pretty sure when it say 50 state legal it is at least it is here.. Exhuast mods are legal as long and the emission controls stay untouched, least thats how it is here in new york

and nitrous here in CO is not illegal even if the bottle is open and you were spraying. You just have to keep traction and stay the speed limit.

Almost all the modifications i have done to my car are illegal, and no tickets yet after 2.5 years for any of the modifications.

taking out the cats is illegal..basically any exhaust modifications in some states...nitrous is not illegal to have only if its connected

#22 ·
Arkansas law doesn't allow the bottle to be connected to a feed line to the engine but you can have the bottle in the car. Doesn't mean they won't bust you anyway and make you go to court to fight it.

 i was once pulled over and after joking with the cop about stuff (the chief of police is my professor :) ) ..he gave me a list of everything that my car is violating..modify exhaust, window tint, no front license plate...he didnt ask about cats though..not like he would of taken my car anyways

There is a reason they call the off-road pipes an off-road pipes. My oil change and muffler place has a sign that says I you don't ask me to remove your cats I won't ask you to pay the $2,500 fine. I'm not in California, they they are terribly strick as are some other states.

I don't understand... Did you think you could remove your cats and put on off-road pipes without consequence?

this is one thing alabama has its good things for...

they dont give a ****. YOur exhaust can be loud as ****ing hell, wake the dead loud, they dont care.

you can cut out cats, they dont care

longtubes, good try

nitrous, not sure but Ive never heard of someone aroudn here getting a ticket for it on the streets

only thing they dont like, and Ill tell ya from perosnal experiance, is barking tires when shifting LOL

I read this thread over a couple of times. And the answer is YES. YES, it's illegal to do most of the common mods in some states. How big are your.... guts.

#31 ·
cops in southern california have a lot more to worry about than a car with modify exhaust..the one that try to get you for it arent really doing there job...

#33 ·
If replacing your stock exhaust with catted xpipes is illegal in most states, then why isn't there sanctions against the sellers of these items?

How can my local Ford Dealer be a licensed dealer for Bassani Exhaust and install these items on my car if they are illegal?

Sumthin doesn't jive there...

#38 ·
Cause it's not illegal in most states. You just have to check your local laws. I do believe the only one that's for all 50 states is you can't gut your cats. So, I imagine if they put them in at your local ford dealer, then they're perfectly legit in your particular state.

All kinds of stuff is illegal, especially in CA. aftermarket Mafs, CAIs, LTs, cat removal, and anything without an EO number. Most big blowers do not have EO numbers and are illegal. Aftermarket turbos are pretty much all illegal because they alter the exhaust before the cats. Its total BS because most of this stuff does not effect the pollution out of the exhaust, but the small companies do not have the coin (~$20-50K) to get it passed the CARB for california approval. It should be as simple as blow clean = pass.
