I'm still getting a lean code in banks 1&2. Since our o2 sensors are heated and dont function until they hit 600 degree's, its got me thinking. I turned on my car after it had been sitting all night. Within 30 seconds, the CEL came on with the lean codes.

How the heck does the o2 sensors detect a lean code if they havent even turned on yet? Unless the lean code can be triggered from another sensor somewhere else?

Is there another sensor in the engine that can determine an extreme condition and throw P2195 and P2197 which is the stuck lean in bank one and two code?

i dont know it its the same or not man but they said the reason my explorer was giving these codes WAS the o2's and i replaced them and no more codes. but like i said that was on my explorer

your maf plays an important part. If you cleared the code and it resets after 30 seconds after a cold start,I would for leaks in the intake post maf. when the car is first started(cold) it is in open loop, does not use the 02's for reference

TY, that makes sense. Im learning that there are alot of places were the system can leak!

Was it both the o2's at the same time? You were getting P2195 and P2197 together? I figured it would be very odd for both sensors to **** out on me at the same time. But by what you are saying, they can go out together?

A member states: "when the car is first started(cold) it is in open loop, does not use the 02's for reference" OK, why when do you start the car, the 02 has a warming device in it. So, does the air in the exhaust run cold it needs on 02 running open loop? When do they warm those glow plugs if there is head that if the heating unit was not in it, it wouldn't need the glow plug effect inside, no?

Codes do not turn off until the wire/unit is diagnosed. Though it is one of the minor sensors, not like the crank sensor without 3 wires for memeory, a key off saves a signal so it fires back up is remembers the last cylinder fired. So, it starts again with a trouble code. The key is turned of, the memory is save as good or bad reference numbers. If it does not comply, the bad signal is not used, a backup/fail-safe keeps the engine running until the unit/wires have been resolved.

You sure have a different school of thought

Hopefully that'll point you where to start to diagnose pending what mods you have done to your car.
