I have read online from different forums of people successfully removing their entire Mach 460 system. People have said to just remove all wiring and start over. I have a pretty decent pioneer Head-unit. I just ordered a wiring harness for it. My car is a 98' Mustang GT. (don't know if year has any specific relevance). I am wanting to upgrade all speakers, install head unit and add one 10" sub. What all wires will I need to be replacing? Which products do you recommend I use? **Please provide links if possible and other threads you think might be helpful**

its a very long process to completely rule out the entire audio harness but you will be able to achieve the best sound doing so. to do so you can use the following
-head unit with 6 preouts
-head unit harness adapter
-a 4 channel amp
-a mono amp (for use with single sub)
-atleast a 4 or 0 gauge amp install kit (power, ground wires, inline fuse holder) depends on what amps and sub you use
-signal wire if not included with amp kit
-power wire junction box
-some 8 or 4 gauge power wire (again depends on what amps etc you use)
-3 sets of rca cables
-a lot of speaker wire
-front speakers (components for front for mach460)
-rear speakers
-misc tools and wire terminals

Now hooking up the radio is pretty basic. you splice in the harness adapter and plug and play. the rest is simple but very time consuming. find two mounting spots for both your amps. I mount mine of the back of reat seat. some people I know have made custom mounts under the rear seat and others have mounted them under the front seats. its all preference. run your 4 gauge wire from battery to wherever you mounting your amps. run the signal wire and rca's from back of radio to where amps will be mounted. find good ground for both amps.
all this will be easier to do with the interior of the car out BTW
run speaker wire from the 4 channel amp to each speaker location in the car. hook up all the new speakers to the freshly run speaker wire. take the 4 gauge power wire to the junction block and then run 8 gauge or 4 gauge (depending on what amps you are using) from the junction block to each amp. ground each amp. attach signal wire to each amp. attach all rcas to both amps in correct spots (front/rear outputs from headunit to 4 channel. and sub output to mono) Hook up your sub to your mono with speaker wire. intsall fuses. then tune your radio settings and amp settings.

Now this is a very breif description on how to do it. As far as what you use for products the head units, sub, and amps are all personal prefference and based on what you can afford. you get what you pay for. some on here are going to swear by certain ones and others will differ.
I myself have always used alpine head units. A jl audio 500.1 amp for my jl audio sub. then I use alpine speakers paired with my 4 channel alpine amp. As far as wiring I prefer Monster for my rca's. heres a link to some I use.
Monster Cable MPC I204 4c 5M 16 Feet 5 Meter 4 Channel Interconnect RCA Cables | eBay
IMXLN2C 5M 15' Monster Cable 2 Channel 16 ft RCA Wire | eBay

These are a couple. obviously there are better and worse stuff out there but I personally have never had any issues with monster and ive run numerous systems with them in multiple cars. the price is very decent too.

Confused :

Just a few things I'm confused on term wise. Because I'm very new to car audio. Wire terminals? Junction box?
I've found most everything I need on crutchfield.com
Will I need additional 4/8 gauge wire other than the wire that comes with the amp kit? Here are links to what I'm going to purchase. I need help finding what pieces to the puzzle ill need to get. Do I need a dual amp install kit since I'll have a mono and a 4 channel amp?

Amp wire kit : T-Spec 4DAK Installation Kit 4-gauge dual amplifier wiring kit — includes two 2-channel patch cables and speaker wire at Crutchfield.com

4 channel amp : Kenwood KAC-2404S 4-channel car amplifier — 40 watts RMS x 4 at Crutchfield.com

Mono amp : Kenwood Excelon X500-1 Mono subwoofer amplifier — 500 watts RMS x 1 at 2 ohms at Crutchfield.com

Sub : Rockford Fosgate Prime R1L-1X10 Sealed enclosure with one 10" Prime subwoofer at Crutchfield.com
Head unit : Kenwood KDC-HD455U CD receiver at Crutchfield.com

If you can let me in on anything else I'm missing let me know. Thanks so much.

that amp kit includes the junction blocks i was talking about and it is also for 2 amps so your good there. it has everything you should need. the only other thing I see you would need is a bunch of speaker wire and ofcourse front and rear speakers and also one more set of rca cables. You might need more 8 gauge power wire depending on how your amps are located but what comes in the amp kit you listed should do the trick

the terminals are the small ends that attatch to each end of the wires. it just makes it easier to hook up to the amps etc. that amp kit comes with them.

I dont really see anything else you need other than what i listed up above. any other questions just ask.

well in my opinion alpine and polk audio make some good sounding speakers for their price. alpine type s are cheap money and can take a beating. I would go with one of those. either or you will need some 5x7 or 6x9 for the front and rear. then a set of tweeters. and again If i was to buy a set of tweeters id pick alpine
and to answer your question on speakers. the difference is 2 way speakers are split up into 2 speakers, 3 way into 3 and so on. 2 way speakers are all you need
