so I got my car about a year ago and have a long list of mods
car 02 GT vert
bbk headers and O/R xpipe mag catback
vortec v-1 8psi. bbk fuel pump 300lp
39# injectors bbk fuel rails
90mm maf 70mm TB
sct tuner

and just two weeks ago I did this

---------- Post added at 07:56 PM ---------- Previous post was at 07:46 PM ----------

so now for my rebuild
Teksid block
Rotating assembly ( 4340 crank, Manley rods H-bem with ARP bolts, KB 10cc pistons bored .30 over, steel rings, rod and main bearings) (everything is rated for 1000hp) I will not make that it just the hp rating.

Edelbrock water pump
Felpro complete gasket kit
ARP side bolts
ARP head studs
ARP main studs
Ford Racing HV oil pump
Ford Racing A/C delete kit
Modmax timing change kit

everything for this build is from MODMAX

deleted the A/C and removed everything that goes with it. that and with the new teksid block it should be about 200labs liter in the front of the car.

How did you blow it up? Sounds very unlikely on a V1 at 8psi unless the tune was bad.

#5 ·
Its not hard. I did it NA. Those rods are worse than you think.

OP, make sure you get billet oil pump gears. The FRPP one doesn't come with them. I would also run all OEM gaskets.

It made. 340whp in a auto. I don't know how it blew lol. My guess is rod fail on the compression stroke. Number one and three piston failed. #3 was in a million peaces. I wtas not running lean. I was doing a 70 to 90 pull on the freeway it was 60° out. First pull she was getting it lol 2nd pull blew once it hit 90mph I was not watching my rpms at the time so I don't know what it was at. But it could have overreved.

If you had your engine balanced perfectly billet oil pump gears shouldn't be requires, but they are a very good insurance policy.. back in the day they never had billet anything and the motors survived if they were balanced perfectly.

Did you send all of the following?

Rods
Pistons
Rings
Flywheel/ flexplate
all bolts including main and piston bolts
Harmonic balancer

I like this forum a lot more then ''mustang forum''

yes everything is at the machine shop. they are short blocking it for me.

#12 ·
You spent $4500 for a shortblock? I am assuming that includes labor? If you need a few more bucks you could return or sell the Edlebrock water pump, and timing chain set (you most likely only need curved guides)

why would I put old parts on an all new motor. all my parts came out to 3500$ and 1200$ for shop work and 400$ for the block. **** all the ARP bolts were dame near 300$. go to modmax mmr livernois and price out a full build and see what it comes out to. this **** ant cheep.

I am building my 2v, similar to this, but keeping stock timing components (except for curved guides), water pump, timing cover, valve covers, and starter. For the most part, the entire shortblock is new. $400 for your block? Is that already bored, honed, decked and cleaned?

#14 ·
no its used out of a Cobra. my last block was ****ed. but for a teksid block that's a good price. and I had a friend just build a 4.6 and use his old timing set and it failed and blew his motor so. I would hate to spend all this money just for a water pump or timing change to fail.

#15 ·
That's a bit more than average for a Teksid. I paid less than that for a complete Mark 8 motor with a 4R70W. But than I had to turn around and spend a lot getting it done at the machine shop.

I would hate for you to spend all of this money and have your oil pump gears fail, haha. It should be alright if you keep it low. Make sure you are getting a dynamx balance though, and not an internal. That is what Pate is talking about. That will help keep the pressure off of those teeth.

.03 overbore is quite a bit for boost unless you are sleeving it. n/a would be fine but these mod motors dont quite have the wall thickness the ole classics did.

and when i built my shortblock i only had like $1200 into it. Everything new minus the crank (used my old one), oil pump (same), and the rods only had dyno time. Thats including the teksid block i bought for $250

I was going to mention that but if he is staying around 500 hp, it will be fine. But that is deft the max. Also 10cc will put you almost at 10 compression ratio, considering you have standard combustion chamber and accounting for the .030 bore over.

#18 ·
I don't plan on more then 8psi of boost.the block is all most done it will be back next week. like I said im not shooting for 600hp and my builder said its fine and I have a friend over on mustang forum that's running the same setup and made 440hp and its running grate. I'm not worried about it.

power is addicting. and after a while, you are going to know that you have all these parts in that engine and would have the ability for more power........ But one thing will be holding you back. lol.

---------- Post added at 05:24 PM ---------- Previous post was at 05:22 PM ----------

and you say "dont plan on more than 8 psi". i didnt plan on more than 14-15 psi. and look where i am now. picked up a meth kit and smaller pulley a while back. Just waiting to get a new clutch to hold the new power. lol

#20 ·
lol you are right about the power. but if im close to 450whp with an auto ill be good. and if I want more then 8psi ill need to intercool it. but I am thinking of going e85.

---------- Post added at 05:40 PM ---------- Previous post was at 05:39 PM ----------

and I was going for 10 compression ratio for the boost

Well I got the motor back Friday night and I got it running by Sunday afternoon. Worked all weekend to get to here it run. Now the shity thing is I don't get to see it for a year. She started on the first try and it dont even sound like the same car. She sounds like a beast. I left for Korea Monday morning when I get there ill post some pictures. I left the car with my best friend who is going to finish up the small things then drop it off to my wife. Word of advice check out the flywheel or flexplate be for you try to put the motor in

#22 ·
Good deal man it's always reassuring to hear things come together. Hopefully your best friend will not raise he'll in it until it gets tuned.

#24 ·
so here is some of the pics of the motor and it getting put back in the car.
48hr build

the last pic is kind of sucks but hey you all get the point lol. ill try to have my wife take some good picks for me.

now I'm thinking of going e85. need some help and info with my fuel set up. can I go with e85? I have a bbk 300lph and bbk fuel rails with 39# injectors. would this work or what would I need to upgrade.
