Notchy T56?

Does anyone else have a notchy T56 transmission? Every gear that I shift in to it never goes smoothly into gear. It will always feel like I'm almost grinding them (it doesn't make a grinding gear noise but I can feel it in the shifter, it's hard to explain). Whenever the car is cold and I shift from 1st go 2nd gear it will make a little clunk noise sometimes. When it warms up that clunk noise doesn't happen but it still feels notchy even when it's warmed up. I've been granny shifting big time lately because I'm afraid I'm messing something up.
Anyone else have this problem with their T56? Btw, mine is from a stock 04 cobra with stock clutch and flywheel with almost 50k miles.

My 3650 is exactly the same. From having it checked out and then also doing a bunch of research the answer is: Tremec just sucks. I put Royal Purple Synchromesh trans fluid in mine, as recommended by the mechanic, and it made it much butter but it's still there. Not really a way around this, these transmissions just do this after a while. When it was really cold and shifting into 2nd was just brutal I'd just skip it and ease into third.

I'm not sure of the transmission that's in it because I bought it like it is and never checked or changed it. This morning driving to school it didn't do the issue but I was being really easy on it. It's going into the shop today to get the AC repaired and new control arm bushings done too so I might just tell him to check my transmission fluid and see about changing it out.

I recall driving a Termi, and compared to my T45, I recall describing the shifting as being like a crunchy taco. I didn't think too much of it though. It wasn't as bad as you describe, but it definitely didn't feel as smooth as my 5-speed and the owner claimed it had been like that since day one.

It was always like that since I bought it, but it's gotten worse the past 2 years. I had a t5 in my 95 gt and it shifted like butter and this one is so rough lol. Good to know it seems like most of the t56 trans are like this though.

how many miles, how much abuse, and what transmission fluid?

it sounds like it has some wear on it, but it could be contributed due to the oil type. from what I recall, they aren't that great to shift if you use the recommended transmission fluid. I use the pennzoil Syncromesh in mine, and it shifts like a dream.... Granted I did just replace all the blocker rings, all the frictions, 2nd gear, fork pads, and the 1/2 hub assembly in mine, so it should shift like a dream!

side note, Im using a stock cobra shifter, with my tr3650 Roush short throw shifter handle drilled out and attached to it.

It has a little abuse on it but it's not like I've ever power shifted the car and it's never been to the track..I quick shift every now and then but that's it. I have the mgw orange handle short shifter. It's at the mechanic shop right now and I told him about it and he said it might be the fluid so he's gonna go drive it and see what's up with it.
