On my '96 GT im doing a PI head and intake swap with comp stage one XE262AH cams. I have a few other bolt ons and what not, do i NEED a tune? If i go WOT will i lean it out or ruin something? I will be getting it tuned but for the first month it might be un tuned.

yea you need it tuned...if there arnt any dyno shops near you call bama or tricktuners to write you a tune for it. You would be leaving so much power untouched if you didnt. and at $100 bucks for a tune why not?

I dont have a tuner, so it will be around 500$ to get one to my door, but i will be getting it tuned. In the mean time though will it hurt the car if i rev it up to 5000? I want to have some fun with it in the mean time but i dont want to cause damage. I figured just running higher octane to prevent detonation might help.

idk the answer to that, if it was me i wouldnt trust it without the tune. if you scope the classifieds i got mine for 200 unlocked and il be ordering a tune from joe at tricktuners here in the next month after i put my cams in so it is only costing me 300 total.

no need to be, just make sure its unlocked. If they send you a picture showing its unlocked it should also say how many unlocks are left. the average price is around 200 for a used tuner so look to pay around that.

No, not with a mild cam like this. I have a set of PI springs with about 30k miles on them i'll be using. I have a set of PI windsor heads ill do a mild port job on with a PI intake as well. Rebuilding my t45 with carbon fiber syncros and a brass syncro for reverse. Bolt on wise i have suspension done, 3.73s, short throw shifter, spec stage one clutch, CAI, tires and some other misolanious things. I'm aiming for 280 to the wheels on a tune.

I agree. With simply PI heads, intake, and stage 1 cam, you wont get to 280whp. You may see 250-255, I'd bet. Remember, gears, suspension, etc have no effect on a dyno, only on track times. With LTs, you may get closer to 270

yea long tubes are expensive..if i had to do it over again i wouldnt have gone with flowtech, the fitment is terrible so make sure you get a decent brand. I definitely felt a difference before and after (i did pi intake LT, and X pipe @the same time).

every little bit helps to get you the numbers you want. i want to swap heads but im waiting till i can find a 4v aluminum block to put it on to get that compression up and save weight.

I'm not going for huge power number though, just something more fun to drive, if anything this car will see some auto crossing and thats about it.

If i was serious about making power id be building a 4v or boosting.
