Rear end fluid change

After changing my UCA and mount I noticed an increased whine from the rear end at steady highway speed. I first wrote it off as increased noise transmission thru the UCA, but it started to make me nervous so I checked the rear end fluid and found it is down 2" from the fill hole. I had gears installed 2 years and not even 10K miles ago. I never checked the fluid level after the gear install. I would like to change to Royal Purple. Question, can I just drain the existing fluid from the drain hole and ad the Royal Purple, or do I need to remove the cover and get all the old stuff out before adding the new stuff?

Thanks

You should be able to just drain it through the drain hole in you LPW cover and re-fill with the Royal Purple. What's in there now is hopefully synthetic so you should be ok.

Even thought the Royal Purple I put in there says "no friction modifier needed," I called bullshit and put 4 oz. of friction modifier in as well.

I didn't put any in with my RP fluid and haven't had any problems. Back in the day I purposely ran without it in my Ram because it made the clutches hold tighter, untill I put a detroit locker in it.

Nasty, did you ever notive anything akin to an increase in exhaust drone from a UCA?

all my suspension parts are on the garage floor. I love how the car felt but the noise was awful:sorry. I just changed my diff fluid yesterday and used 75-140 red line and 4oz of friction modifer and its quite as a mouse:)

Since Royal Purple says it doesn't require friction modifier, would there be any harm in adding it? Maybe it's not meant to mix with it?

I just picked up a Saleen 8.8 with 3.73s (and has the max grip diff with the carbon fiber clutch, dunno if that makes a difference) and need to put some fluid in there. I'm going to pick up some Royal Purple from AM, how many bottles should I get?

Diff fluid smells like $hit, don't get it on you, it doesnt come out. also its a pain to put in, easiest way is to four jack stand the car and then lift the body with your jack, should give you enough room to get the fluid in ther without spilling, found that out the hard way.

I know a 7.5 needs two bottles at least. I would think 2.5 would be a good amount.

It takes 2.25 qts. So two bottles and one 4 oz. bottle of friction modifier should be perfect. I always just fill it till it starts to come out the front plug. I will probably be doing mine this week because I have to reseal it, small leak that I'm not sure where it's coming from. I think it might be my carrier preload bolts need some thread sealant.

Perfect, thanks guys. Gonna run to AM Saturday and pick up 2 bottles

Yeah it's like ~10 mins from my school. Comes in handy, but the free shipping can't be beat. Tough on the wallet being so close, I'm like a kid in a candy shop
