i read that if you pull the sway bar for drag racing it will help get better tracion by lifting the front and transfering weight to the rear

Every fox that I have ever ridden in already has the front sway bar removed....

yours might be the last one left with it still in there that isn't autocrossing. Maybe you should leave it in there just to stand out :)

If your bushings and end-links are already worn out (which the probably are unless someone replaced them), then the sway bar isn't doing anything anyway.

It will definitely help you off the line by removing it as it will help the weight transfer front to back since the front shocks will be allowed more travel.

It will also hurt the cars cornering ability if the sway bar was working.

Try this, take the end links off and drive it around. If you like the way it feels or don't really notice a difference, take it off. If it feels wrong to you, put the end links back on.

Go take a turning freeway off ramp at 60 mph
then take it off and go drive same ramp.

I bet you put it back on afterwards ............

They drastically reduce body roll in high speed turns and sharp aggressive turns.

Lot of people install the smaller 4 cyl sway bars to drop weight
but still have some kind of roll stability.

i cant do this anymore but not cause the sway bar its cause my tires are too wide and they rub i need to roll my fenders a lil more.

At least a tenth. It has more to do with weight transfer and using the full shock travel up front rather than loosing weight.

I put one back on my car and did a few 100mph curves. I immediately took it back off, I noticed absolutely no difference going around turns.

A sway bar is just a bandaid for a poorly set up suspension anyway.

What ?

It's an integral part of a "properly" designed suspension.
If it's a band aid why does EVERY car have one ???? including Porsche's and Ferrari's ?

Ford put the thing on there for reason, and it wasn't to
"bandaid" some problem. It's there to control body lean while cornering
If you couldn't tell the difference it's because either all the bushings
holding it on were slap ass worn out or you're a poor driver.

All removing it does is remove some weight off the front end and make
your car handle worse off the track, where I bet it spends 99.9% of it's life.

If you want to save a tenth at the track and feel like you're driving a boat
then take it off.

am i the only one planning on making my stang handle better? i mean **** i already have it handling better than my rex and that things bult for autocross

LOL....show me an F1 car with a sway bar

BTW, a lot of autocrossers run their suspensions set up without sway bars.

Yes sway bars are a band-aid for spring rates and damping rates that are too soft and designed for a comfortable ride rather than all out cornering.

F1 "cart" is not a car ........ Cant compare.

You are mistaken.
Most late model high performance cars call their sway bars a "stabilizer bar"
and it looks different, but performs same function.

If they are so useless why do the top Mustang suspension
kit companies, namely Maximum Motor Sports and Eibach include
a sway bar in their high end suspension upgrade kits ?????????

The OP asked if it was OK to take the sway bar off and I told him to disconnect the end links and see how he likes it before he takes it off. I think you recommended something similar, so...

I'm not joining your pissing match, just speaking from experience. If you talk to some serious autocrossers, I think you'll be surprised what you hear about how many of them run sway bars, or stabilizer bars, or anti-roll bars, or any other name of band aid. If you talk to drag racers, I think you'll see that almost all of them run without a front sway bar...must be for some reason...hmmm.

I've disconnected my sway bar and drove the car for a while without it being connected. Then I finally hooked it back up and drove the car and I noticed a big difference in corning I felt more comfortable at taking corners at higher speeds. I don't mind driving with out it because I do have it disconnected now. My car is set up more for drag racing but on my car I noticed a big difference form it being connected and not connected.

i always chuck the sway bar in the trash, the bushings are always gone anyway so unless you are going to replace the bushings you might as well remove the swaybar. I've owned a dozen foxes in the past 10 years and i've taken off the bar on the few that had em and i've never had a problem, of course i always run 3 inch skinnies on the front so cornering isn't a priority anyway

its all what you do with your car. i took mine off just cause it does help the launch and takes about 15lbs off the front end. my goal is to pull the front wheels off th ground so every lb helps.

Removing the sway bar does make a big difference in weight transer. How much it helps you at the track is dependent upon other variables such as how efficient your suspension is currently. Most like like you will gain a couple tenths. They don't weigh alot, only about 20 pounds with all of the bracketry but the real gain comes from the weight transfer, not the weight loss. You will notice a cornering difference with the bar removed but unless you have some really sloppy spring rates I doubt anyone will ever have an issue street driving. I've never owned a Mustang with a sway bar. I've always taken them off and every single one of my Mustangs have been daily drivers in the summer. I did not adjust my driving style at all after removing the sway bars on any of my cars. I don't take corners and curves on the street on the verge of roll over anyway. I've never had any issues on off ramps, even with my black car which had a 100% drag race suspension. 70 mph down the interstate and on to the off ramp with no problem at all and that car had 26x4.5 front tires on it. Like Ryan said, disconnect the end links and drive the car. If you don't like it, hook the links back up. If it doesn't bother you, take the sway bar completely off.

seriously, if you have bias ply tires on the car, you aren't taking corners over 30 mph anyway...
