I finished up my frpp hot rod install Saturday morning. I started weds night on the passenger side, cam installed, then forgot to pick up some rtv so I buttoned everything up on that side after work Thurs. Got up at 5am Sat and finished the driver side around 9am.
The install was easy and most of the time spent was moving stuff out of the way on the passenger side and cleaning everything.
I did it by myself without the special tools, just a hose to wedge the chain. Once the valve covers were off it took about 20 minutes to swap each cam.
When removing and replacing each I put a towel over the intake manifold and had the new cam on it. Held the sprocket up in one hand then swapped the old with the new with other hand, finger tighten the phaser bolt, finger tighten the middle cam cap, rest at ease. Then inched down each cap until they all mated to the surface before torquing.
So far no cel or drivability issues with the AM/Bama tune. Cranked right up the first time.
Exhaust mods are pypes off road H and Mac axle back mufflers. I've always had a horrible trumpeting with these mufflers once I install the off road pipe. For whatever reason the trumpeting is gone after camshaft install. Drone is the same. Sound inside is not too loud but shakes the car. Buzzes and rattles can be heard around the dash and radio more constantly now than before it was only at certain rpms. Not a big deal to me since it's my toy car and not a daily driver. Sound outside is freakin awesome and thumps the walls in my house. I can't imagine the car behind me at a light. I did hear a new camaro cammed last week when I was in my work van and it had me even more excited when I knew these were coming in a few days.
Butt dyno and Bama 93 tune - around 3000-3500 and up feels good when you mash it. Pulls harder and it's smooth all the way up to next gear (auto). Nothing extreme, but noticable. Just driving around feels the same.
I'm very happy with this mod and feel it was worth the money and time spent.
