t-5? I would do a T-45 or T-3650 since they will bolt up. The T-5 will need adaptor plates. The hardest part would be finding all of the parts for the swap.

you could piece everything you need together for half of a "kit". best would be to find a totaled car and take everything you need out of it.

you should rethink your posision on this swap for a min.
if you truly think your driving style is killing these trannys then you will find yourself very sorry you did the manual swap as no 5spd (& 6spds aren't much better) come anywhere near the strength of a 4r70w, if you think it's you thats breaking them, you may as well buy a truck load of t45/3650/etc's cause you'll need them.
I'd venture to say that you didn't get a quality rebuild on this (ie the 2nd) tranny & thats why it also failed.
that being said, there are tons of guys looking to go the other way (ie manual to auto), you can most likely find someone local that'll swap you (with you haveing a bad trans, I'm shure some cash would be involved, but it still might be the best route).

 

Depends on what driving style you have. I am ditching the auto because I hit the corners. If you want the quarter, get another auto. Like mentioned, I don't think it is how you are driving the car that's killing the trans as many people abuse the 4R every day.

 

yeah I am one of those people looking at going auto. I am running a turbo kit and I know that eventually the 5 - speed will break. Plus, automatics are better at keeping boost (no possibility of missing a gear).

The swap isn't hard. probably the hardest part is installing the pedals.

 

An auto and turbo car go hand and hand! You can go wrong there!

 

i just did this swap last week. its not to bad but i had a donor car so i had everything i needed right in front of me. probably took about 15 hours spread over a weeks span to do the swap. the only thing i need now is a tune to fix my spedo.

 

Just not looking forward to taking the radiator out

Well... I dont abuse the hell out of her.. Not like i leave every stop light with a smoke show behind me.. Ya know.. I have contemplated the pros and cons and think I am going to stay auto. I found this company that seems reputable.... Has anyone herd of this company... looking into this tranny..

you must be abusing the **** out of that thing, because im an abusive person on my trans and motor and i still havent gone thru one and trust me when i say abuse i meen abuse. your prob shifting it your self or down shifting it huh?

the manual transmissions can be built to handle the power you want, its the driver that makes the difference in the race. the 4r70 is a good trans, great if you are primarily drag racing. why would you pull the radiator for the swap?

 

i'm getting the auto from him...i need the auto radiator for the cooling lines

 

the cooling lines go to the trans cooler in the front. i dont remember there being trans cooler on the radiator. i may be wrong, been a long time since i did the swap.

the mach had external cooler on it stock, just a small one tho.

 

hardest part of the whole swap is changing the pedals

 

aparantly you havent lifted a transmission

 

just see if there is lines that go in the side of the coolant tanks on radiator or ir there is a small cooler in front of car. if all else fails, just crawl under and follow the lines.

 

The lines do go into the radiator..... Just so yall know.... Mine go like this...:
Tranny... radiator.... external cooler....tranny....

Hey does a 4r70w from a V6 mustang bolt up to a V8 mustang? is the bellhousing the same?

 

no they have the sbf bolt pattern, you need one from a modular motor.
as to my trans, it's still the stock one for the car, it has been freshened upthough.

 

So bottom line we have to swap radiators? In all the threads online about these swaps no one mentions anything about the radiator?
