thoughts on a gt?

ok...so like many v6 owners out there, my v6 power just isn't enough for me. i could put a lot of time and money in it and have a fast v6, but it would never be a v8. i am strongly considering selling my current v6(pic in avatar is from a year ago) and using the money towards a late 90's/early 2000 gt.

what i wanted from you guys is some feedback on this decision. i am in 10th grade about to go into the 11th and i could sell my v6 and get a gt over summer.

current mods:
cai
livewire tuner with custom tune from American muscle
new rims and tires
body kit (which can come off)
pypes header back exhaust

i dont want to continue spending money on a car that will most likely never give me the power i want. Also, please don't take any of this the wrong way, i absolutely love everything about my v6 besides the power.

i would say to shoot for a car with more potential for more power since you are sick of your V6. so i think a 96-98 cobra would be perfect. or a 99-00 GT and a procharger would make you happy. but try to steer clear of no PI GT's(96-98), as they arent much stronger than a bolt-on V6.

thanks for the responses guys. the problem i have with my v6 is the problem of no potential power. like i said it will only go so high.

currently i am looking into a late 98 gt or a 2002 gt. i think i can sell my sixxer for around 7500+ (65000 mi ; 2003 model). if i get really lucky i might have around 1000 for a few bolt-ons such as some longtube headers or something. i don't think i can spend more than 7500 to 7000 (believe me when i say: that is a REALLY tight budget). Also, i am not looking into 5.0 stangs, i want a modular 4.6.

You'd be really lucky to get $7500 for your car. You'll need to find someone who doesn't know anything about the price of these cars for you to get that much. Just save your money until graduation and upgrade later, it isn't worth it to spend everything you've got on a stock GT at your age. They aren't exactly neck snappers anyway... definitely don't get a 98, they aren't much faster(read: BARELY faster) than your v6.

Well, the only reason i say 7500 is because i have a friend from school who might by it, but if that falls through, i am pretty much screwed trying to get 7500 for an already modded mustang.

i know it's like one in a million, but i am trying to catch a gt for around 7000 with under 85000 mi

how about, don't put more money into it and just wait and buy yourself a GT as a graduation present, or furthermore buy a Mach1 as a grad present.

plus you obviously have some money or someone that loves you if you have a car that nice at your age... no one busted there asses like me when I was in highschool and I still don't have everything I dream of.

Im in 11th grade now and i was considering what i should do about more power. Im just gonna keep my six in until it has about 150k miles then drop a roush in there. and by the time it has 150k insurance wont be so much.

i was in the same boat a little while ago, i decided to pro-charge my v6, now im hesitating again lol. What i decided to do is buy a gt for myself after i graduate from the fire academy, so around april of next year, until then im going to do every bolt on in the books to the v6 and that will eventually go to my girlfriend

you know, after listening to you guys, i think i will wait until grad to get a gt or even a mach 1 maybe (unlikely). i got my car as is with the body kit and rims for 6000 and i don't believe i am getting 7500 for it. i was really excited to get this car as my first car and i still love to drive it every day every day. believe me, i have been more than impressed to see some of the numbers of the v6's on here, but i currently don't have near enough cash to get a supercharger..

so, next to come is lowering springs and rims lol! by the way, is a 4.6 in a 1998 the same 4.6 as the 2003? if not, what is different?

#19 ·
well my plan so far is that if i get the opportunity to get a gt and it be almost payed off i definitely will get the gt. But, like i said, i prob won't be getting 7500$ for my car. this makes chances of a getting a v8 are slim to none. So, i am going to try to hold out and get a good gt after i graduate. In the meantime i am looking at some eibach lowering springs and had been considering a 4.2 swap or stroke. I know this seems very unlikely and impractical but i will have all summer to do it.

to sum up my thoughts, i am getting a gt if i can, but if not, i am going to continue with the sixxer and maybe get a few upgrades.

that's most likely what i will end up doing considering the situation. i really like my car, as in EVERYTHING except for the power. i'm pretty much one of those people who like to have as much power as possible even if i am not going to use it :D.

so...yeah, i think i'm going to keep it as a daily until i can safely buy something a little more powerful. But, i am looking for a power boost somehow im just trying to think of some ways to do it. i was thinking maybe a 4.2 swap or maybe some stage 2 heads from supersixmotorsports? what do you guys think?

i think i would stick with the v6 cuz if u have a nice v6 u could get a average gt. and with the average one it wont be as nice so u will spend more money. so if u just put that money in ur car it will be better than a gt. i used to be so mad i had a v6 but it is the greatest feeling now. i love when i race ppl and beat them and they ask if it is a gt and i love the look on there face when i say it is a 6. if i were u i would keep ur car save up build ur motor up slowly since u have a nice base. i would get some better heads a cam and dyno tune and slowly from there either go fi or nitrous. and u would be happier. at least i would. wuts better than spankin a gt with ur v6?

wut you should do if money is tight is a full true dual exhaust wit longtube headers, ASP underdrive pullies, gears and t-lock. if you have time to save up just go straight to a power adder from where you are now cuz trust me, i spent thousands tryin to get full bolt ons on my sixer and it still wasnt fast so you might as well spend slightly more and have 270+rwhp wit a turbo/supercharger

#27 ·
a stock motor, bolt on V6 is capable of 200+whp. it will take some $$$ but is well worth it. then get to a couple exterior mods to get away from looking like a stock V6, unless thats what you want. im hoping to crack 200whp this summer with just a few other things. im just 4.1 off so im close:D

i would say that selling my mildly modded v6 was the best decision i ever made. dont get me wrong i loved my mustang but nothing sounds and feels like a good ole v8 at WOT. but on the other hand i agree with the other guys when saying that you should wait and keep v6 for know it would defiantly help having a daily and a fun.

#29 ·
I agree with everyone on here. You are best off waiting to get something that you REALLY want. I drove a truck (that sounded like a lawn mower lol) for 5 years. I looked at an 01 Mustang GT in GREAT condition and they were asking $8k at the time. I decided to wait, saved money, sold my truck, and I am now making affordable payments on my 08 Mustang GT. Good things come with patience :D

GT's are f**kin garabge unless you get a 3v they're decent
and if you get a 3v DO NOT put a blower on it, they're full of fail as well as the STS kit
and the 04 and lower is pure garbage
the bottom end is just as strong as a V6 bottom end if not weaker
they're heads flow as good as a v6 ported and unported
they're horrible excuses for a v8
and in the end you'll only wish you got a 4v or a ls1

#31 ·
i still want that v8 experience someday, but for now i think the best decision is to stay with my v6.....unless i find some kind of price for a GOOD gt that i just can't pass up :D.

well i think my dad would help me to stroke the v6 up to a 4.2 over summer and from then on i am going to save up for a power adder whether that be a supercharger or turbo. what kind of power could be expected from a 4.2 stroker? Also, i would really like to know what kinds of things i would need to do to get the most out of a power adder.

#35 ·
yeah i was just thinking about that...i never did state how much power i wanted. well really i want as much power as i can get :D..but i would be happy with around 300 or even a little less depending on the price of all the parts....

is it generally cheaper to get a procharger or supercharger than a turbo? it seemed that a turbo from tma would be a better bang for your buck than most superchargers. But, who knows, i may be fine with a 4.2 v6 and a new cam. i am going to take this all slow and not buy too many things at once. i don't race a lot, but i like to win when i do :). plus the 4.2 + cam would sound fairly good for a v6.
