Thoughts so far on 5.0 Mustang ownership.

So I have put roughly 1k kilometers on the car since purchase.

Honestly ford built a great car with the S197 platform and I am sad to see it go. It handles great for 1930's suspension out back.

The 5.0 is an amazing engine so is the 3.7 for a v6 mustang to not only make 300+hp but also sound the way it does bravo but the king is the 5.0

I love the seats, comfy, engine sounds great with an exhaust. Sound tube is annoying I hate pointless **** on cars good marketing for ford.

Now how fun is it to drive this car? Extremely Boring.... now before I get flamed and hated on hear me out.

Where I live is dominated by speed traps, pothole filled roads, winter for 6-8 months. The car has 400hp at the crank, and low gearing meaning I can accelerate from 0-110km/h in a matter of 5 seconds. 110km/h is the highest speed limit reserved only for main highways. So in order to actually have fun with the car and drive it at its limit I have to really risk my license.

Basically owning a car like this with these conditions and no really good back roads and having to store it for 6-8 months a year really has me wondering if I should sell it and perhaps get something else.

I really feel like the 5.0 is almost too much engine for this car. The front feels heavy and floaty almost like the 5.0 weighs it down.(needs better suspension.)

Perhaps if I lived in a warmer climate or a place not so riddled with speed traps and such low speed limits I would like the car more but as of right now I feel its strictly a drag strip toy. Cars like this should be able to run flat out for more than 4 seconds a time.

This now completely changes my opinion of owning a GTR or Viper or Z06 in my town. Unless you can afford the tickets you can't really have fun.

However this does not take away from the car, its great, amazing machine, fast as hell stock and all the creature comforts I need. Just sucks I don't live in Florida.

THIS! My thoughts exactly. I personally think that is the best thing about the 2015 interior. Everything else on the 2015 sucks expect the engine lol. I love my 2012 though. Way better than my 2001 GT I had.

I understand what you mean though OP. It's pointless to have a sports car if you can't enjoy it IMO. I daily mine, speed limits on most roads I drive are 55mph, interstates around here vary from 60-75mph. I take mine to the track on occasion so I can really hammer on it but otherwise I take it easy.

Like I enjoy the car, its fun when I can have fun... but its kinda like... actually its exactly like dating a hot chick that only puts out on weekends.

Also the cup holders are no longer cup holders in mine, I keep my old shift knob and garage door opener in there.

There is no such thing as too much motor for this car. You simply need to upgrade the suspension.

Ive had my 2013 for about 2 weeks now. Bought it with 5400 miles on it, and it has about 8k now. But 1460 of those miles are driving to St Louis and back. Loving every second. Winter has me kind of worried since it is my DD but so far I've really enjoyed it. I have a lot of twisty backroads here where I live though so I get to play around a little bit.

Can't comment on the GTR or Z06, but had three vipers (2002 GTS, 2006 coupe, 2013 srt base). The vipers are certainly misunderstood cars. Forget about the ticket factor, the Gen II and III tried to kill me. The Gen 5 finally had traction and other controls to help with all the naturally aspirated torque. Even the stock 355 rear rubber was useless.

You cannot play around or show off in an viper. That's it.......... I enjoyed the car in other ways.... until double hernia surgery got me. Now my daily is a land yacht (yawn).

Whatever man, the S550 is a sweet ass car. Rides like it's on a cloud. Has plenty of power for what it is. And I LOVE the bolsters that inflate to counter act the sliding-in-the-seat effects of turns. When I was doing diesel work, the owner of that company had one that I drove on multiple occasions.

I love the 5.0 as a daily. I DD'd my dads 06 3V for a few weeks while my Jeep was in the body shop and it didn't have the same effect on me that the 5.0 does. Most of the time I just cruise but occasionally I'll hammer on it just to let myself know what kind of car I have. For me, it's worth the cost in gas. My average on my dash says 22.5 right now. That's exactly 1 less than my fusion sport got average wise. Honestly so glad the fusion blew up lol.

Mine's a DD business car and everybody loves it. 3.73s, manual, almost all city driving makes for some work but, it's a joy nonetheless. Then, every once in a while I take it to it's natural habitats: long road trips or, the dragstrip, where it hammers out 11 sec 1/4s on an unmodified motor.

I's determined to TVS this car at some point, just because I can.

my tune has slowly changed over the last few days, had a few street encounters.

1) Rich old guy in a Ferrari 360, long straight no lights late at night no traffic, I had him by a bumper.

2) Imported 94 Supra tried to race me, I had him by 8 lengths in no time, later found out at a car meet that it was an N/A car.

3) Supercharged 2010 Mustang GT he had me by a car length. I started to pull up top as he had me off the line but I missed 3rd and hit 5th. Made me appreciate 3v's

4) Duramax with a tune lift pump intake and exhaust, had me off the line but I reeled him in and past him. like he was standing still.

Over all the car is growing on me, I think it just needs suspension and a shifter.

it's all about the s600 the s550 is slow imo.
Granted at 4500+ lbs and given it's shaped like a brick, it's no sports car but 0 to 60 is 4.8 compared to the 2015 mustang GT 4.4.....so not too shabby for a limousine sized car. Don't know much about the S600, thinks it's a V12. The AMG versions are quicker of course, also way more coin.

$100k for an S550 isn't cheap to begin with. lol

Suspension work will make this thing drive like a totally different car, but I feel you on having a Mustang in an area that sees a long winter and has shitty roads.

#21 ·
OP, have you tried looking for drag strips/race tracks to go to? Also there has to be some type of industrial area near you. A lot of those types of locations have long straight stretches of road with only a few cars on them.

only had mine about 4 months so far but absolutely love the car.
always looking at things to upgrade the car (found some foose wheels i really like but when
i saw the price!!! oh no!!). any way the 5.0 is bad fast right out of the gate so i will leave the engine
and drive train alone for now at least until the warranty runs out. noticed shifting is getting notchy
and will appreciate any advise to smooth it out some,(just looking for an inexpensive fix for now.
around where i live there seems to be a boat load of challengers, and tons of camaros which makes
my decision of purchasing a gt mustang so much the better, but then my first hot rod was a 1969 fastback!
