upgrading a 4.6l

Hello!

I was looking into upgrading some stuff on my '04 Mustang GT block
Right now at fairly low RPMs she seems a bit lethargic.

I am mechanically inclined and understand quite a bit about how modern FI systems work; however on the performance and engine upgrade side it's not quite old hat, yet anyway.

I was wondering if there was a way to get some more torque on the bottom end of the RPM spectrum to take off nicely.

Or would I be better off upgrading internals to better handle 3-6k RPMs when taking off so that it doesn't stress the engine as much?

There are guys on this board making 600+ hp on 4.6 2v. SSG Pate is one just off the top of my head. So.... you suck pretty much.
Take your block, put in forged internals, boost it.

I'm not looking to make insane amounts of power; Just looking for a little more pep;
My -other- thought is dropping in a 5.4L; I'm sure there's plenty of cheap ones around.
Other than that I was thinking of finding a stock Kenne Belle supercharger at a pick and pull and doing a bit of plumbing.

You wont find a "stock" kenne bell at a pick and pull. They arent stock. And i guarantee that my car was making over 600 horsepower to the wheels before I broke it. I just never got a chance to put it back on the dyno. These blocks will hold a lot of power.the internals should hold around 400 to the wheels safely

If you want torque, spray it.

The 2v motors are hard to make NA motor with. Unless its higher compression, TFS heads, aggressive cams, and good intake plus full bolt ons. Then you can make 360-400rwhp. But for the price, and simpleness most people just spray or throw boost at it.

I would most definitely get gears. I know they're a hassle if you're installing them on your own, but they are MORE than worth it on these cars. Otherwise... spray it or throw some light boost at it.

03-04 cobras did come with eatons. But yoh would need a tork tech kit to put it on. After all said and done you are better off buying a brand new kb because they are better blowers and it would be cheaper. Get gears for now. It will be cheap and should satisfy your needs. Remember, suspension and weight reduction are often overlooked and will help out tremendously

I agree with the "gears". If you want more low end torque, just buy a $150 set of 4.10s and pay someone to professionally install them (if you're not comfortable doing it yourself). Instant torque multiplication.....it exactly what you're asking for.

Like others have said, 4:10 gears, and a tuner, and you will be surprised the amount of whiplash the car gives you. Especially if you have an auto.

If that still isn't enough, do a 100 shot of nitrous and there will only be a handful of DD cars that can keep up with you.

Here goes the gear debate!

I'm in, I'd say 4.10 if your not planning to go all out.
Going partially all out, like supercharging / turbocharging, work with the 3.73 to assist in your building of boost.
If your going all out, some may even suggest sticking with gears near stock, for the long run!

I had 4.10's on my 99' Vert and enjoyed ever minute driving it!
