I almost was killed because a car fell of a lift! I worked at mobil when was 15. I did oil changes for them. My mangaer put the car on the lift for me. It was a front wheel drive sedan. He asked me to check the brakes so as I was taking off the rear wheels there was too much weight in the front and the car nose dived off the lift from 5 feet up almost crushing me in the process. I was still holding the rear wheel and the car fell onto the tire I was holding and pushed me into the wall behind me. I was so lucky cuz I only got a scratch on my shin. I believed in god that day! Lol.

Ha well I guess I got more German in me then.

When I worked on the exhaust I ramped up the rear tires with these huge metal ramps I have (fit PERFECTLY for the stang on front and back) and then used two jacks to hold up the front end for clearance. In hindsigh I probably could have choked the ramps, but they're built so well that the car really can't roll off without being pushed so I wasn't too worried about it at the time. If I work on my driveshaft though, I'll be sure to do that!

Thanks Alot guys this is very appreciated...
I will be dishin out all the Reps later....
Luck is not always with you and I have caught my hand between my tire and the fender wall before because of a falling jack... Thank god I was out from of Mavis tire and they rushed out with a hydrolic jack...

Safety is key....

I use walmart wheel ramps for quick stuff. They work fine. I had a friend remove the DS on his truck without the ebrake on. The thing took off into the street. He was ok because its way off the ground and did not need to be raised to work on. Once he busted a cinder block and almost had the truck fall down. Most jack stands do not work on lifted trucks. Cinder blocks only hold weight one direction, and even then you should put a 2x6 across it (or not use them!). Every time i have ever worked under my car on jack stands i always stuck a jack just under the oil pan, but not touching. I figured it would save me if one of the stands busted. Now i have a 4 post lift so i don't have to mess with this stuff anymore!

You mean under the k member, not the oil pan, right^?

lol
Depending on what i'm doing i do put it under the oil pan. It does not touch it. having a jack under the k member takes up too much space. If the jack stands break it will mess up my pan, but hopefully not crush my head. I also have a big tree log that i used to toss under there sometimes. Hopefully everybody knows not to jack off the oil pan.
