What is considered a "Cobra Clone?"

I'm referring mainly to the 99-04 Mustangs for the 03-04 Cobras.

I see a lot of Mustangs (mainly on craigslist) claiming to be Cobra clones? But MOST of the time all I see is a Front Bumper and Wing, or maybe wheels to go along with it and then they say it's a Cobra clone or something like that...

Don't get me wrong but, if I just had the Wing, Bumpers and Badges, I would not call my GT a cobra clone... Maybe a GT with/ 03-04 Cobra Bumpers. That's it...

Idk, maybe it's just me... What do you guys think would be considered a Cobra clone?

IMO, Clone means - exact copy, so for cloning a car, I'd at least think something close to that.

I would say look at termi_gt or WickedSnake's cars.
Yeah but I hear that termi_gt **** has an automatic, and WickedSnake doesn't have a spoiler, and has SN-95 sail panels.

:shiftyeyes

Also-
Cobra clone: Same except for VIN. Pretty much the same inside and out. :naughty:
Fobra: GT with Cobra body parts; you look at it, then lift the hood and get really disappointed.
GTermi: GT with Cobra drivetrain (opposite of Fobra)

Hood, front/rear bumper, rocker panels, mirrors, spoiler, side scoops, badging

All suspension, IRS, control arms, brakes, 4v swap, fuel tank, wheels, IRS exhaust

Full interior, including all seats, gauges, leather boots and Ebrake handle, steering wheel and airbag, all in an OEM cobra color

Unless you're doing an 01 cobra, then there are a few less things to change. It would probably cost more than just buying a cobra to begin with

A cobra clone, imo, is anything with a cobra badge that isn't a cobra. I hate it when i see GT's and even some v6's with a cobra fender or grill badge... But if i see a GT with a cobra body with the GT badges then it's ok in my book.

Agreed

I'd say if it had an IRS with all body work identical and a 4v with a twin screw or roots attached to a t56 to be good enough IMO.

A clone has it all. Full body, motor, interior, suspension, etc. hate when people call theirs a cobra when they have a "03/04 front with no bezels, fogs or chin spoiler.

Whenever I see someone selling a "Cobra clone" on CL or where ever, I always act interested and say "Hey, Cobra clone still for sale?" Yes.

Then I say, "Does it have the 4.6 S/C DOHC?" No... "What about the T-56?" No... "IRS...?" No... "Well does it at least have the Interior?" Nope...

Then why did you call it a clone? :bash:

For me it's an exact mirror of an 03-04 Cobra minus the documentation. What I mean is interior, exterior, motor everything is OE on a 03-04.

I would say look at termi_gt or WickedSnake's cars.

For a Termi clone, I would say: All body parts (shaved rear bumper), motor and trans, interior and gauges, brakes, IRS optional (since tons of Cobra guys go SRA anyways).

Basically, the only way I want to be able to know it isn't a Cobra is by looking at the VIN #.

Generally what I see on Craigslist and is completed swapped body to a Cobra look alike and leave the gt motor.
Maybe to some extent. But I don't ever see a completed swapped body. Just the body we are talking.

I only see, Front Bumper (more often without the bezels, foglights & chin spoiler) Rear Bumper (Maybe), Deck Lid w/ Spoiler(Rarely)

Never do I see them having the "03-04" Side Skirts, Hood, "03-04" Cobra wheels or Side Door Mirrors.

I would consider being a cobra clone as the most important part of the cobra. Instead of a 2v, 5 speed and SRA, it would be to convert to 4v, T-56 and IRS. Aside from that, it is all pretty much cosmetics. So, if it only has the cosmetics without the fundamentals per say, it is just a riced out mustang.

Also for Ham Sandwich...I love your SIG!
