my 98' gt had a mac h pipe with magnaflows and it sounded pretty mean, not as good as flows though, imo. when i had a 04' gt i had flow 40's welded in and it made a good sound difference. my 86' 5.0 back home has 40's with 3 in. piping and sounds awesome. the cobra has super 40's and sounds pretty good so AS U CAN SEE im more of a flowmaster guy so of course i would recommend flows, but im sure whatever route u go, the car will sound real good. go to youtube.com and search through mustang exhaust clips and look at 99-04 gt sound clips and that will help u decide what kind of sound u wanna go for.

IMO i've never heard anything sexier then a mustang with Flowmasters.

my friend runs a mac cat-back with a mac prochamber......sounds pretty mean when he's on it......but anything below 3k and she sounds feminine IMO

edit: Macs aren't dif........there all over the place. They were rated as one of the best exhaust u can get for the money u spend on them. Since then, it seems like everyone and there brother has them

and yes, they are quiet in lower rpm's....and as much interstate driving as i do... i thoroughly enjoy that

If you plan to do anything with your exhaust, dont go to stock, go catback aftermarket man. They're nice and sound excellent. Go to youtube and do some searching for what u might like, that'll give you a better idea. I'm in the process of doing that;)

Well there are lots of choices for muffler weld-ins, so your going to have to listen to clips, and hear them in person so you can see what you like. If I were you though, I would buy the whole cat-back. Weld-ins tend to rust out at the welds after awhile, and they won't open up your exhaust as much either, because even though you would be changing the muffler, the rest of the piping is still stock, and very restrictive. So saving for a cat-back imo, is much more worth the time & money. Whatever you choose though, make sure you like the sound, by hearing it in person first, because alot of people didn't, and then it turns out they end up buying different set-ups, because the one they heard on-line sounded nothing like it in real life. Enjoy, and happy modding. :D

The aftermarket catback piping is larger than the stock piping and it is mandrel bent so it's better quality and has better flow.

Just save your cash and buy a new catback...
