Opinion: SCT.

They have consistent hardware(unlike diablo) and software that feels a lot more professional and user friendly. They pretty much have the same capabilities but around in my area dyno tuners use SCT.

I used to have one of each so I have first hand experience with them.

What exactly does a tuner do?

The last person who told me made it sound like you're taking a gamble when you tune your car and that you can easily mess it up.
custom tune your computer and engine to different specs for performance, turn off different functions, raise speed limiter and rev limiter...etc

SCT. I have had both. I traded my SCT for a diablo. I like the SCT because it is a HELL of a lot easier to use. But I got the diablo thinking I would need it if I ever got a dyno tune, because that is all my local tuner supports..

A tuner allows you to change your ECU to work properly with your mods. Just an example: if you change your gear ratio without a tuner, your speedo and tach will be off. With a tuner, you can tell the ECU what ratio you're running and it will adjust the speedo and tach to show the proper speed and revs.

If anyone messes up their car with a tuner, it's because they're being stupid. Get a custom tune (done professionally, you can order them online from places like AmericanMuscle, Trick Tuners, VMP Tuning, etc) and don't **** with any settings that you don't completely understand. Rev limiter, speed limiter, gear ration, and tire rev/mile are all simple to understand. Start messing with things like timing when you don't understand them and you'll end up with detonation.
