sooo today i learned something...I thought my t45 was banged up bad... it was rough to get into gears and at high rpms it wouldnt go into gear.. so I did some testing. I put the stocker back on but with the short arm from the AM shifter and it would go into all gears like butter!!! I cant imagine the amount of tension ive put into the t45 with this cheap thing... I wish I spent a little more cash on a better one before... so now Im looking to make up for my mistake and get a new good name brand shifter. Ive come down to 3 selections which are BBK,Hurst and B&R. which do you guys recommend?

B&R? Is that supposed to be B&M?

I never even heard of a BBK shifter, but google image search shows a BBK/Gripp shifter that looks (EDIT) kinda like the B&M

You're on a budget?
A: Buy used
B: Buy this summit one that looks safe to say it's really a Steeda Tri-Ax

Summit $140

Steeda $190

75-80% of the people on this forum will say MGW. I suspect if you believe the Hurst to be too expensive the MGW will be as well. I'm old school. I hate the looks of the MGW shifter. I believe that getting a shifter that is too short could lead to third-second shifts. Besides the slowest part of the shift isn't the shifter, its the clutch. I ran Hurst back in the day. I'm running a Hurst in my Mustang and love it. I gaurantee one thing. You will never break a Hurst handle.

By the way, most short throws just run a shorter handle. If that is how they get the short throw then you are loosing a lot of leverage.

I changed the clutch and it didnt fix the issue. Im getting my new energy suspension motor mounts put in next week and after that my dyno tune. Im willing to spend 200 bucks or so. I dont want to end up in this hole again. the hurst looks nice but its just too old school for me lol. the mgw style looks amazing to me! I did read that they tend to break but I dont shift hard. I had to with this crappy shifter and I felt like the tranny was screwed up. I was worried id bend a fork.

Summit sells Hurst shifter at around $200 but all of them have a straight handle. If you want to use your cup holders then go to a Ford dealership and get an FRPP Hurst shifter. It has a bend in the handle that allows you to put large size cups in both your cup holders without any problem. It has been a few years but I paid $175.

Edit: I post this before I read your last post. Good luck with the MGW. I hope you like it.

High doesn't mean long. It all depends on the linkage. I do not have to stretch to reach it. Shifting it is completely natural. Like I said before, a lot of shifters claim to be short throw by shortening the handle. That reduces your leverage.

I believe that people should make informed decisions. That means getting all the facts both for and against. Good luck with the MGW shifter. Most on this forum prefer it.

P.S. If you are judging shifter handle length by the boot, I would have gotten rid of the boot entirely if I could. I have it pushed down as far as it will go. If I had kept it at its stock height it would have been in the middle of the Hurst logo on the handle.

Well after breaking my B&M precision sport in half! I did some more research and look around... Here's what I noticed on most forums:
60% say MGW
30% say pro 5.0
9% say steeda tri-ax
1% say B&M

Needless to say two nights ago I ordered an MGW with hurst black billiard ball

After you break your MGW will you go Hurst? A lot of people go with a Hurst shifter handleson another base plate after they break their shifter. Oh... wait... You will not be able to do that. MGW has a totally unique way of bolting the handle to the base.

I hope you like your MGW shifter.

I don't want a Hurst shifter lol... plus MGW has replacement shifter handles for different application. Also I cant imagine yet another shifter handle would break on me; I've never heard of it happening in the first place. Only reason I didn't replace my B&M with another is because of all the positive reviews on the MGW- its also supposed to have a shorter throw.

**keep in mind I had the Precision Sport, not the Pro Ripper. (MGW was also cheaper too at least for the t45)

Why does everyone ask which ShortShifter to buy. MGW or Pro 5.0. The MGW wins hands down with every thread.

Well... I guess even though it's already been said.... MGW!

I run MGW in my Vette & in my Cobra. Absolutely awesome. Highly recommend. :rockon
