Starting to price out my build, and was wondering the average cost of a cleaning, hone/bore/deck (or anything else) that you guys have paid. This will be on a stock 2v block, given my block is in good enough condition.

Depending on the shop I would guess $300-500 for a basic job like that. I was just north of $1000 in machine work, but that included things like line hone, torque plate hone, bearings, and balancing. Balancing ain't cheap, and neither is the torque plate hone.

Nice not too bad. Ill have to find a place and give em a call. This will be a whole new learning experience for me which im excited about. Just going to be a mild build, enough to maybe make 500hp with all my other current components. Even if it makes less id be ok. I just want to be able to hammer down all the time without worrying about it blowing again lol.

Should any work be done on my stock heads? Obviously new gaskets, but what about machining them as well?

Who ever u get to to do the machine work don't make the mistake that I did and tell them your not in a hurry. I dropped everything off at the machine shop in November and shortblock wasn't ready until beginning of March

I have about 1700 in machine work and long block assembly, but that does include bearings and complete gasket set.

That seems to be about par for the course. I was quoted 6-8 weeks, it took 4 months. Big time performance shop.

Some less specialized machine shops have quick turnaround. The downside is they don't have the high performance knowledge or machinery.
