Long story short:

Went to muffler shop, got 2 magnaflows (supposed to be loudest ones) for 200 installed.

Went back 15 minutes later because the car was quieter than stock. (I drove it on the highway and took off a couple times to be sure)

Paid another 150 bucks to get the magnaflows taken off and replaced by flowmaster American Muscle series (supposedly). Tips welded on and everything.

Drove away reasonably pleased.

Until...

Certain rpms and when I shift the flowmaster internal baffling rattles a horrific rattle that sounds like someone running a wrench against the end of the driveshaft.. it resonates throughout the entire car and feels like I'm grinding a gear (I'm not.. trust me)

SOOOOO

I'm outta funds and out of patience.. The guy wouldnt take back the magnaflows he sold me because he welded on the hanger.. which is stupid cause you can just hold onto them til another mustang comes in (3-5 days later) and wants them..
Food for thoughts: The smaller the muffler, the louder it is (less room to dissipate sound).. So why did the guy sell me a F**king 14 inch magnaflow when they get smaller than that (My previous car had a single magnaflow that was probably 10 inches long and was VERY loud).

I'm going back tomorrow to bitch him out basically and offer to give him all his crap back in exchange for all my money (I'm considering letting him keep 50 bucks because there was labor involved in botching the job on the car)..

I wont even have him weld on my stock mufflers, I'll ride with straight pipes to miami mufflers which is where I should've gone but never got a quote from because I figured this place I went to had the best deal.

While I'm at miami mufflers I'll probably have my cats removed and some magnapacks put on.. and it will probably cost me less than these people ended up charging me for doing the job twice.

I'm really bummed about this situation.. my car sounds like **** right now because of this rattling going on.. and I'm out of pocket 350 bucks (450 if you include the tips I bought for 50 bucks each)

If the guy doesnt take back his shitty mufflers and give me my money back I'll do something crazy like contact the bbb or hunt down his firstborn. lol

yea an eaxel back exhaust takes 15 min to swap out without even lifting the car... buy the SSS terminator exhaust with 4 inch doulble walled tips and you will not be disappointed espically for 299.99 there awseome! and just install them yourself

I didnt think they would be welding I thought they would just unclamp and reclamp but I was wrong.

a magnaflow axleback is expensive though.. >_< I really prefer magnaflow because its straight through without any restriction.. I've never heard of the SSS Terminator exhaust..

btw the muffler that was on my previous car was 11 inch, not 10 like I think I had previously stated.

If there were cheap axlebacks that just clamped on I would do it myself but it seems like all of them cost 300+ and I was looking for a bargain getting exhaust for 200 bucks.. until all the mishaps put the bill up in the 450 range.

Hopefully my luck will turn around and the people will be nice enough to take back their product and give me back my money.

I did the math with the real numbers and if he gives me back 280 bucks I'll let him keep the other 110 bucks as well as his mufflers.

I figure 70 bucks per muffler x 4 = 280, my total was actually 390 installing mufflers twice >_< 490 if you consider the 100 dollar tips but my friend bought them for me.

Thats a lot of money that can go towards a better exhaust.. and until that better exhaust I wouldnt mind open pipes.

If any of you know where I can find clamp on axlebacks with nice tips so I dont have to weld anything please let me know. I dont really like off brands and would prefer magnapacks for cheap if I could find them. Thanks for the help.

You live and you learn man. A little bit of searching this forum or even making a thread to ask our opinions would have saved you time/money/and the headache......thats what we're here for afterall.

I think a flowmaster axleback is less than 300 bucks.. Hell, you can get Pypes violators for like 200. But for what you wound up spending so far you could have bought some FRPP stingers and had the best sounding axleback out there.

Or, if you don't even want to have to worry with size of muffler to sound ratio, then you could just go with SLP Loudmouths. They aren't THAT loud (nothing like running straight pipes) when just driving around town, but they sound really nice at WOT. $338 shipped (you can probably find them cheaper elsewhere though) and the installation takes an hour tops in your driveway.

SLP loudmouths are just expensive tips.

Cut off your cats or bang them out. Have them take off the axlebacks and weld on some nice chrome tips.

Then change ur midpipe to a x or h.

Loud? YES

you get what you pay for in all honesty. for less than 450 i got my MACs. Had vastang757 show me what to do and we got it done in about half an hour or so with him teaching and showing.

I think I'll get rid of the cats.. I'm going to try and get my money back today.. giving the product back of course. and I'll run with no mufflers to the nearest quality shop and get some 11 inch magnaflows put on instead of the 14 inch ones the guy sold me saying they were the "loudest"

Anyone know if the 11 inch magnaflow will sound nice with stock exhaust? and without cats? with stock piping?

I want it louder than stock but with a nice tone.. and some popping.. the flowmaster the guy sold me doesnt pop, its just slightly louder and has loose baffling inside..

My advice would be to quit messing around with the exhaust shops and just get some exhaust ( like a mid pipe and some axlebacks ) and you will get what your looking for. Play around on youtube as it is a infinite source for mustang sound clips. Find what you like and start from there. I dont think your going to get what your looking for on the path your down.

By popping do you mean the little compression backfires when slowing down. My car does that all the time when I downshift slowing down. As far as the rattling, are you sure it's in the muffler itself? Sounds to me like you got a hanger or something rattling against the frame or something. My Flows are pretty loud, borderline obnoxious. Yanking the cats will make it louder. Headers will give it a completely different tone. Take your muffler guy on a ride and let him hear the rattling and have him fix it. I'm sure he can narrow it down and fix it. Whenever doing exhaust you have to kind of expect to have to adjust things a few times to get it perfect. When I put mine on I had to adjust the mid-pipe and axel back a few times to get everything lined up and rattle free.

they aren't THAT loud? SLP1 is the loudest system on the market. It sounds alright, but I don't know how you can say they aren't loud. There's not a louder catback system out there.

A track buddy of mine couldn't sell his GT with SLP1s on it, it was too loud for everyone that came too look at it. It's a very loud setup -- some people like it, others not so much.

yeah by popping I mean the compression backfire. I dont have an exhaust vid of my old car but the exhaust on it was PERFECT.. I think ill go to the dealership its at now and ask to record a vid of the exhaust so you all can hear it.

I am done dealing with this guy, he was deceptive with me and I dont want to do business with him anymore. He sold me something and advertised it as something else. I'm not good at being an asshole but I need to be because that was a lot of money wasted on something I do not like and did not ask for.. and now the rattling within the muffler.. he will end up messing up my car. I already watched them slip with the sawzaw and hit the inside of my bumper.. then act like nothing had happened.

I will run with no exhaust until I find what I want.. I dont mind the noise because I'm young.. but i need a permanent solution.

Half an hour?? I'm thinking it was "or so".... ****ing newb slowing me down :D

OP, you really would have been better off ordering an axleback setup and doing it yourself. Screw muffler shops. DIY all the way!
