I have one but my car came stock with one. i have replaced the clutch in it. the install is easy, much easier than the install of the 3650 or t45 cause the bell housing can come off and be installed seperate

T-56 install isn't that bad to install at all. You can find complete kits with the crossmemeber, tranny and the driveshaft. D&D performance has a t-56 magnum kit.
T-56 Magnum Kit 99-04

That's if you don't mind spending almost 4k on a tranny swap with 750ft lbs tq rating. Or you could look for a terminator transmission from the salvage yard. You might be able to find a regular T-56 no magnum from Ford racing parts website rated for 450ft lbs tq.

T-56 swap (thanks for NOTHING, Lefty )

The swap is not a difficult one, but need a driveshaft and probably the X-member as well. Will need to address the switch for reverse lights and what to do about the reverse lock-out switch. It is all in the swap link above.

Jazzer :)

Easier said than done. The going price for a stock T56 is around $1800, and they get scooped up pretty fast. Everyone seems to want one. Tons of fox body guys are running them as well. Also keep in mind you CANNOT use the Chevy T56 without extensive modification. Different bell housing and shifter location.

As for packages D&D is a good place to start, and the swap is as easy as following Jazzer's guide. If I'm not mistaken the lockout wiring can be remedied by using a T56 harness if you can find one (or don't mind wiring.)

...drives me crazy trying to get my hands on one though. I see a lot of guys running them in next to stock NE's and foxes and think "Come on, I really could have used that. I'm making a Cobra clone and I would turn my 5spd into oh so much shrapnel with the power I'm making." But I digress...

Yes I would love to have one too. I'm looking at two different routes for my car, but I know I want the T-56 for sure.

anyone know what that will change hp/ 1/4 mile time wise? vs. the 5 speed?
1.) Different transmission will not change horsepower of the car whatsoever. As for drivetrain losses versus the 5spd, next to none. It's still a manual with the same design.

2.) Any effect on ET will be negligible at best, certainly less than driver error. The only big difference is that the 5th gear of the T56 falls nicely between the 4th and 5th of the 5 speed. You rarely ever see those gears at the strip anyways. What might actually hurt you with the 6 speed is first gear isn't as low as the T3650. If you don't account for this with your rear axle ratio, or don't have an engine suited to it, you may actually lose out. There's another user with a T56 and stock 3.27:1 rear gears who bogs pretty badly on launch. Of course he also uses taller tires. Basically to account for the different first gear ratio you'll need to either change your rear axle ratio, or change out the gear in the transmission.

Bottom line, you're not going to gain much, in fact it's possible you'll lose from it. That is if you don't make other adjustments as well.

The reason I want one is to both make it a true Cobra clone, as well as the much greater strength for my power level. Not to mention I already have 3.55:1 rear gears, and my engine has a substantial amount of torque at low RPM's.
