what is that box thingy connected to the hose that connects to the iac? and what does it do? it looks like it could easly casue a vaccum leak at the seams if its old plus i dont get what it is or what its for..
so that square box thingy is a silencer? what is it sapose to silence? does it work like the silencer on the stock intake box? if so, if i remove it and just run strait tubing will it effect the iac? and will it make my engine sound beefier? that would be cool..i just get tired of everyone asking me if its got a 5.0 under the hood, im proud of the 4.6, i love it..

optional is turning home depot into his automotive parts depot lol thats one hell of a intake i wanna hear how beefy it made your car sound lol.

and now looking at my desing, i hope i didnt put the iat in a bad spot..one of em hoses does connect to the crank case and i hope it doesnt foul it, no big deal but still..i doubt it will but CMON GUYS..wtf is that box thingy..
I didn't notice that before. Don't the stangs with the seperate IAT locate it upstream of the CCV ports?

Even if it doesn't, since you're so handy with Home Depot components, get yourself a coalescing oil filter for your CCV ports. Something like this:
Image

Get one of the air line oil filters from Home depot, a Y-fitting and some extra tubing. Run the two CCV lines to the Y-fitting, and then to the oil filter. Run another line from the filter out to the intake tube. Plug your extra CCV bung on the elbow. If you're real ambitious, run a line from the drain port on the seperator to a convenient drain location on the bottom of the car.

Or you could get the automotive grade ones we use that have built in bypass options, but those are a bit pricier.

i was looking at one on craigs list that was for the new mustangs..it was explaining how oil blow by gets in the intake a bit as it pulls air from the crankcase..and lol, i have no issues spending money.I just hate wasting money, why spend 200 on something when i can get it for 50..i could have bought a big JLT intake or something but it would have looked the same as mine since id have also wrapped that..

I like your resourcefulness man. When I was 16 before I had my 96 GT I had a 97 3.8L v6. I made a home made CAI for it with some pipe I got a Lowes hardware store. It was the same kind of aluminum/tin pipe that goes behind your dryer. The very smooth and thin aluminum/tin pipe. It was extremely light and I made it big enough that I had to upgrade the throttle body. I was so proud of that thing! It looked a little more conventional compared to yours, but if it gets the job done at 1/7th of the price KUDOS to you! Ingenuity, originality, and motivation are rarely seen these days.

that heat wrap is ugly..but i bought it so im using it..
it also would have been easy to add a bend and run it into the fender or bumper but i built a ram that that rams air from underneath the frontbumper onto the underside of the filter.im gonna get some diamondplate and make a heatsheild that caps over the filter on over the spot where the ram comes in..

I'm not trying to argue but RAM air is pointless until after the 100MPH mark.
After seeing how much more stable yours is with PVC pipe I stopped at Lowe's this evening after work and priced some PVC pipe so I can do the same thing. I just want to run mine into the finer well. I was kinda guessing its going to use a 90 degree angle bend to connect to the throttle body and a 90 degree angle to get under the finer well. I also want to use your idea of diamond plate as a heat shield. I know the point of a CAI is to keep as many bends out of the line as possible and to get as much difference in temperature as possible (cold vs the hot air that's under the hood)Do you think I would be better off with a 90 degree bend connecting to the throttle body and a 45 degree bend under the finer well or what? I know if it were under the finer well the air would be cooler than under the hood.

I was kinda hoping mine would look kinda like this one.

This is all PVC with some spray paint. I would have spray painted mine black. Same thing with the diamond plate...

Sorry this is so long just looking for some advise from people who have already done this.
BTW about how much did it cost you to build yours?

actually i put a digi thermo in my old intake tube to test to see if the ram helped..it lowered the intake temp by over 20 some degress and that was in summer with just city driving nothing over 45mph..i understand it doesnt "ram" air in the intake but it does take cold air from the outside of the car and aim it onto the filter and the filter then draws in that cold air rather tahn hotair from the engine bay..

but try and keep it one size, on those pics the rubber parts are sctually smaller than his pvc pipe.so as it enters the pvc part it tumbles and looses velocity..the biggest part should be the opening at the end of the mafs of filter and the smallest part should be at the throttlebody..

i hate my exhaust, it sounds canny like a pontiac's..BUT,its either quit and ontiac style or wayyy too loud..i had 44's and it was almost strait pipe..and strait pipe on this car was as loud as a FKing nascar. No way i can drive it and not get pulled over that way.and im loving the throttle response..it doesnt have as good of a yank downlow at like 20 and below but anything above those speeds shes a monster. It also feels faster off the line if i could get my tires to grab..its been cold and wet..flurries tonite and tonite i have an excuse to go take my car on a little drive as i run an errond..maby ille take a video of it driving..
