I am going with a diy stroker kit from fordstrokers.com it looks to be a great setup. all the machine work is done, the assembly is custom balanced. I decided to buy the bottom end kit. it comes with a custom cam and basically everything you need to build a shortblock. I plan to just pull the old engine and sell it. then I bought some AFR 185 heads, and for a bit of the stealth look I bought a 93 cobra intake.

if you join the sbf building site woody has a lot of great videos that show some interesting tips and tricks for building engines and you get 3 percent off the cost of a diy shortblock. so basically free shipping

from everything I have read recently this is probably the best place to get a shortblock. if you just want the rotating assembly and you want to do all the machine work yourself that other kit is a good deal.

Go to Coast High website and look at their stroker prices. Woody is a hell of a marketing guy, I'll give him that.

Compare apples to apples. They are going to have assembly time in a shortblock. I'd rather have my machine work done locally so I know who to go see if it's not right. Rather than ship it back and argue over the phone.
DIY is anything you buy that is not put together already, it's not a kit labeled 'DIY', that's the only point both of us were making. You can piece one together nicely anywhere on the net. Woody has everyone on the corral drinking his Kool Aid and that's ok. He's good at marketing himself. Does that make him the god of all engine builders? No, not at all, it just makes him wealthier than those of us who don't put all that time into marketing, but rather put all that time into research and development and furthering knowledge. When a woody engine wins a nascar race, or heck, even an NMRA class race, then I'd say he's earned his stripes.
Bottom line, it's your money, spend it where you want to. OP, don't ever start a thread with "Where's the best ________" or "Who's the best _______" STart it like this:"where'd you buy your _______ from and why?" Much less drama, much more info.

jmho. And I own body armor so, I'm ready for the war. lol.

first of all I am not sure why you seem to be getting so hot and bothered. if you have had issues with fordstrokers then I understand. the op asked for information. when I did my research on several websites the information I got was, that was the place to go for a stroker motor. I looked at several sites and several different options and for ME, this was the best one. for the reasons I listed. am I saying everyone else's kit is crap, of course not in fact both times I responded I said that if you just want the rotating assembly kit there are other places to get it. what I said was that I could not get everything I wanted as easy and as cheap at other sites. I fully recognize that the labor and time involved in the chp kit makes up for the cost of the upgraded components in the diy kit. but my time does not cost me anything, and I enjoy building the engine. so for ME getting the better components for cheaper was a better deal.

also I live in a small town there is only one guy anywhere close to me who could do the machine work locally and I don't know if he does strokers. he is a decent machinest but for this engine I wanted the machine work done by someone who was expert on this. I did a lot of research on different sites and Woody seemed like the best option. does that mean I think no one else builds decent stuff, no. I have never ordered a stroker from anyone else. this is the only one I have ever built. does this mean I know everything there is to know about all these company's as you seem to, no.

the op asked for advice. I offered what I knew based on what I had read. when I was called on it, I explained why I chose what I did. I am not sure why you think you need body armor for a simple discussion about car parts but it seems like you have a bit more of an axe to grind than I do. so sorry I said anything. have a nice day good grief.

I totally agree. And I fell into that trap when I didn't have time to build my engine, which I normally do. And when my ring seal was ****, it wasn't worth it to me to deal with shipping it back, and I ended up just doing it locally, which turned out much better anyways. That's the cliff note version.

As someone who can not build their own motor, and I have no shops around here I totally trusted, I went with Fordstrokers. After about a year of looking there's really only about 4 major places I would have went with, CHP, DSS, Keith Craft, and Fordstrokers. ( I would have no problem with a motor built by NXcoupe, either, but you aren't really pushing motor builds, nor have you been around much. ) Call if marketing if you will, but I see Woody around the forums quite frequently helping people with or without his motors, and have read many accounts of people more then happy with his motors. With very few instances of people not. For the price, and the components installed, it would be very hard for me to say it's not a good value. But rest assured, I won't be shy in sharing the results, good or bad.
