Have a quick couple questions for those of you who may know. I was all prepared to cut my springs on my 01 gt and went and bought fox struts and sn95 shocks only to find out that my springs are progressive from the factory. This means I can't cut them, and have to purchase lowering springs.

Would anyone who has any experience in this area shoot me a recommendation for which ones to get that will work with the shocks/struts I already have? I only want about a 1.5 in drop in the front and about an inch in the rear. Also, random thought, but would fox springs work? Like factory GT springs from a Fox?

Last questions, I've looked into some springs that I think may work, but they say they are specific rate springs. Is that like linear springs or progressive?

Sorry for what must seem like idiotic questions to some, but I don't know the answers to them, and I did try searching, but didn't find any answers that satisfied my questions. Either that or my search-fu is very weak.

Thanks in advance for any help anyone is able to provide.

for that little of a drop i would go with eibach sport lines. if you want to try and do it cheap you can get these which are supposedly made by h&r but they will give you a little more drop in the back, luckily my cobra springs are linear so i cut mine with no change in ride quality. however, due to my straight axle swap i do have gt springs in the rear, i cut them 1 coil and it doesnt handle terrible, like any other straight axle mustang anyways.

I'm not sure if I'd run another factory spring from another stang. But to answer your questions, I used the H&R SS springs with Koni STR.T fox struts and SN95 shocks. It dropped mine about 1.6"/1.5". Specific rate will be a linear spring rate. The H&R's are progressive. I like the drop it gave me with all of the isos still in place. It's low, but not draggin ass everywhere low.

If you haven't looked into it already, you might want to throw in some caster/camber plates.

A little late to the party, but I wanna tell ya my set up.

right now Im running H&R SS springs with Tokico blue shocks and struts with no front ISOs.

Id recommend the H&Rs because there well priced, dependable, and they dont slam the car to where its not drivable. Also, Id recommend taking out the front ISOs. just make sure that your wrap the bottom of the springs with duct tape to prevent mettle on mettle squeaking.

As far as ride quality, well, It isnt a Cadillac :lol. But lets just say rough roads are rough, but bumps dont shatter your bones. Id dont really notice that much though cause I dont care.

Now as far as caster camber plates. I bought some after I lowered my car because I could see some camber problems. well When i took it in to get aligned, they put the car on the machine, and they were able to get the camber into specs with out the plates. Caster wasn't a problem at all. So with that, I sent my CC plates back and got a refund :baller:

So yeah, heres my car

progressive rate springs are going to have a more comfortable ride than a specific rate spring, progressive rate is designed more for street applications whereas specific rate springs are designed more for road course. also the specific rate springs tend to have a more aggressive drop than the progressive rate. eibach makes some really good springs and if you want a more aggressive drop i would get the sportlines, i love the stance those springs give and you can put some urethane isolators in and that will lessen the drop slightly.

Another option to look at are the Ford C Springs on AmericanMuscle. I ran those on my 02 GT for quite a few years before switching to H&R SuperSports. They gave me roughly the drop you're looking for and retained a near-stock ride quality. I ran stock shocks/struts and no caster/camber plates. Here are a couple pics:

Ordered my springs today, WAS hoping to get a hold of a certain AM individual to see about a discount, but eh I'm tired of waiting and I wanna drop my girl. Tired of folks asking me if I'll pull 'em out of the mud w/my 4x4 :D

Will update thread with pics when I get her dropped.

Thanks guys for all the help, I'm pretty sure I rep'd you all. If I missed someone let me know and I'll take care of ya.

::mini update::

Got my springs today. Opened the box to see if I got some cool stickers for my tool box like summit/jegs etc send, alas none. Not even a catalogue, and what I find very strange was no packing slip with return instructions or anything. Granted this is my first time ordering from AM, so maybe they don't send those things, IDK.

Either way I tore into my box to look at my pretty blue lowering springs to find them loose in two separate boxes inside the large single box. Not sure if it's just because they're lowering springs and all, but I'd hope they wouldn't send everything out like that. Some items will need some packaging.

Oh well, maybe I'm just being overly picky because I package/ship stuff for a living and all. :dunno I can say they got it shipped out to me fairly quickly, and the tracking was dead nuts on.

I'll be starting the tear down tomorrow so be prepared for pics either Saturday or Sunday.
