anybody runnin a manual valvebody auto? pros and cons? how is it on the street? would an automatic valve body or manual valve body get more consistent 1/4 mile times? im not saying im gonna do this, just simply asking. :)

I ran this thought not long ago a automatic valve body will get more consistent times especially if your tube is one the spot. manual valve body will be similar to having a 5 speed, but not as fast as a manula valve body. But if you want to try it out the worst thing you would have to do is switch back to your automatic VB and control.

i've done a lot of re-search on this and depending on how my last round of stock valve body mods go i may be doing this soon.
PROS: faster shifting and better et's
CONS: O/D and lock up would have to be on seperate switches, or you can wire the lock up on a micro switch to engage in high gear.
cost for a good one around $500.00
i talked to FB transmissions and silverfox transmissions and both seem to have a great working knowledge of this mod.

i don"t street drive my car alot and bracket race whenever i can so street driveability is not a real concern for me.

my 2 cents

I've tried out my valve body now and I have to say that I think I would hate it if my car were a DD. My car is very seldom driven on the street, so it's a good choice for me.

PA makes a street/strip valve body for C4/C6/AOD that manually holds 1st and 2nd, but still allows automatic shifting in drive. I have no idea if something like this exists for a 4r70w, but it sounds like it might be an option if you can find a company that makes one.

wouldnt a manual valvebody auto be similar to driving a stick shift but without the clutch? you have to manually shift between 1st 2nd and 3rd, and have a switch or something for OD. so i see drivability being somewhere in between a manual and an automatic. or am i wrong?

I might change my mind after I get used to my shifter a little more. My shifter makes downshifting a little more difficult than a stock-type or a ratchet shifter might since you have to squeeze the handle to downshift.

I went to the Gatornationals this weekend (BADASS!!!) and priced out my trans for when I swap everything into a coupe to build a more dedicated drag car. I'm going to run an ATI built Powerglide with a manual valvebody and a brake. They guarantee it to 1000hp and the gear set comes with a 2 year warranty. For the trans and SFI bellhousing it's going to be right at $3k... and it's gonna be a **** ton of fun!
