Methanol Injection

for you centri blown meth users. what kits do you have and what do you like / dislike about them and how does your tuner feel about it.
im looking into getting the AIS stage 2 kit and want to do as much research as possible.. thanks for the help!

i have a kit from ais, i have done upgades to it over the years so now it is a trunk mounted 3 gallon 250 psi pump dual injected system with a boost activated switch. my tuner told me about it a couple of years ago and since getting it i have not looked back since. i added an ic to it this year and my motor runs ice cold and my timing is jacked up to 20 degrees

I know it's a extremely basic setup, but I run a MR freeze from AFM. It's a really simplistic set up, but the numbers did not lie in the data logs! I went from the car pulling mad timing to being able to run the piss out of her!

Vortech :) According to a Rep at vortech people have been doing it for years and even during rebuilds they have noticed no negative effects for the long term of the blower! That made me feel a little better lol. I would love a true kit but this was a cheap temp band aid really. But the pump ones scare me bc I am afraid of being a victim of a bad pump!

why don't u just get a intercooler? I don't want to be "that guy" but I mean honestly, why wouldn't you?

Meth is just a bandaid for when you cant cool your IAT's. I look at it like NOS, why would you want to keep filling it up OVER and OVER and OVER again? And even if you just "use it for the track" that means your car is still useless once it warms up and your driving it to the grocery store.

i do have an intercooler... i have the procharger 3 core sheet metal.
i dont want the meth for the cooler iat's i want it for the octane.. i can only run 15* of timing right now with 91 octane and its holding the power back

One to keep in mind with methanol, it corrodes aluminum bad, coated alum. just takes longer. Now keep in mind this is at 100%. I have ran methanol mech. injection for years and It WILL tear up aluminum and absorb water like crazy(bad if you tune for 100% meth.) it gets really bad on alum. when it dry's.

If I were you I would spray it before tb and not allow any to go thru IC which it will attack

yea honestly i want to spray it about 8" away from the throttle body. the IC is the only thing in the intake tract that is aluminum. The only issue i see is on my year they intergrated the IAT sensor into the MAF and there is no secondary IAT sensor. you cant spray meth before the MAF so how will my computer know not to yank timing out. it will only see the hotter air and not the cooler air

At a 50/50 mix, I've yet to see signs of any corrosive damage with my setup (and I have had the blower off a few times since installing the meth system). As far as filling it up OVER and OVER again, it really depends on how WOT-happy you are. So far, it looks like I average about 1 gallon of 50/50 mix every 300-400 miles with a 375ml/min nozzle. However, that car isn't a daily driver...it's run pretty hard whenever it's taken out.

To the OP, I have a Stage 2 MAF kit from Snow Performance on my XR7, with their SafeInjection system wired into the octane plug to pull timing should anything fail. I've been very happy with the setup, and I plan to jump up to a larger nozzle to handle a little more boost and timing over the winter.

i still run a boost switch with a 5 gal per hour pre, and 10 gal per hour post, when i installed mine i ran boost juice, and since it is red you can see how much gets into the ic, i started with a real small pre jet and watched to see what turned red. with the 5 gal per hour i dont see any red getting into my ic. i have a vortech v3 si trim and i have not seen any damage from it after a year. you do need to move the iat sensor to just before the tb so it can register the temp change. the biggest part of safty with meth is your tuner. if he dont know crap about it you may as well stay away from it.

hmm thats interesting.. i currently have an 18* tune on my flip chip.. but i need to fill up with 100 octane to use it lol

what about you other meth guys.. what boost and timing are you running and what are you making?

#24 ·
im just curious if i should drop down to the 3.2 rr pulley.. that should put me at 17 psi
but i dont know if meth and 91 can handle 17psi on this motor

or if it would just be smarter to crank the timing on the 15psi . which do you think would make more power? more timing less boost or less timing more boost lol

my only issue with meth is that it is just another thing that could potentially fail and take your motor with it if your tune is that dependent on it. if you arent tuned for it, well you wont have as much timing and wont really get as good as results aside from cooling effects.

that is where the good tuner falls in play. many tuners dont know what they are doing when setting it up. they just shove the sniffer in the pipe and tune it for the meth. safty is simple to add it. do a base pull no meth low timing, then hot pull it to get the high intake air temp. the tuner needs to have the car start pulling timing when the intake air gets above the first pull and based on the temp of the hot pull the tuner needs write the tune to have the timing pulled full back by time the temp hits the temp of the hot pull. now to for the setup on the meth be sure to put a low level light in the tank and a light to show that it is spraying.

paint thinner aka tolulene is used at the refinery to add/create/up the octain raitings. Ive used a 5 gallon jug from the paint store, dumped it in the gas tank with a bottle of marvels mystery oil and made my own 105ish octain. Dont know what it costs anymore, but a few yrs ago it was cheaper than buying race gas.

:exactly And if you want to be even more careful, you can use the SafeInjection system to not only pull tons of timing, but to trigger a warning light to tell you something isn't working correctly.
