New Plan Idea

I know I'm going to be flammed for having this thought but curious as to what other people would do if they were in my situation. So I have a Roush TVS waiting to be installed when I get back to the states in 6 months. I'm going to be stationed in Germany in Feb 2011 for atleast 3-4yrs. Now I know that lots of people have had success being FI and others not so much success. What I'm thinking about doing is maybe selling my Roush TVS and just adding heads/cams, udps, intake manifold. Then when I come back do the bottom end and FI. Yes I know the power won't be as much as it would be with the TVS but it'll be a bit more reliable so to say. The only thing thats stuck on my mind is what will I do if/when the motor decides to pop. Not many engine builders/tuners in Germany. Please discuss. Thanks

I like the plan... It's pretty much how I want to go about it. Except I'm not sure about the intake manifold, they don't fit with the superchargers do they? Unless your ok with dropping the money on the manifold and then ditching when you eventually get the supercharger, (if I'm even right about thinking that it wouldn't fit with the supercharger)

^you may wanna seriously get on the web and do some searching if you're afraid to have a built motor over in Germany. Quite a few top notch tuning facilities have opened up for the simple fact of common interest of muscle cars to the European market. More naturally, they have responded to the fact that more US service personnel are bringing their cars overseas.

I would blow that thing and then take it down the autobahn as fast as I could. How cool would that be!?

Wide open for miles at 145+,
Passing Porches and Mercedes
With your automatic alternating flashing high beams,
And all they hear is the high pitched supercharger whine of you approaching
And the low howling scream of your exhaust as you pass on by.

Sounds like the beginning of a really good poem. You should finish writing it!

I think you'd be foolish to sell a blower that you already have. You'd lose a lot of money. Not to mention half the parts you'd buy for the NA build would be a waste of money with the blower.

I'd get it setup at a safe power level with a spot on tune and call it a day. And if something did happen, I'm sure you could find a competent engine builder in Germany. Their biggest export it cars for kripes sake. And our engine is like 1950s technology over there lol.

What I meant by heads/cams are more reliable is that you rarely hear someone say that they blew their motor w/ heads/cams. How many people do you hear/read about someone destroying their engine with FI. Alot more if you ask me

So just get a remote tune done here in the States and than if you have any problems over there I'm sure you'll be able to get it taken care of.. I know a guy that is in the military who took his built car to the Pacific. I'm not positive where it was but maybe Korea or something so Germany is a cake walk!

Ok. I get where your coming from... But how many of these people that blew their motors weren't trying to push the envelope and build something bad ass ( monster boost ) or uneducated and either doing something stupid or running a shitty tune? Run a reasonable amount of boost and get a good tune and you will be golden. Yes, you hear horror stories but what your neglecting are the hundreds of people on this site that are running boost for 100k miles with nothing more than minor maintence being done. It's easy to look past them because people post their problems and rarely their success stories.

Just put the blower on and dont go to extreme with the boost and you'll be fine. If you decide you wanna get crazy, then start building the motor to support it....
You'll regret not throwing that blower on there if you sell it.

I think it's perfectly safe to run 10 lbs with a good tune but if you're worried about it, why not just run 8 lbs? 8 lbs on a TVS will make ~460 rwhp with no other mods.

Thats a good idea...from what I seem from that vid posted and his #s, you wont be disappointed in that setup.
Nope, not at all.. I made 506 rwhp out of 10 lbs on my TVS. The only other power mods my car has is a offroad x pipe and a Magnaflow catback.

Whatever you do, you have to do the autobahn thing. Trust me. I did like 140+ for like almost 10 minutes the other day. Well not the whole 20 miles. There were 2 turns and I slowed down to pass 3 cars (ironic huh? slow down to pass a car.). It's a pretty good rush. It's not like a track environment where there is a certain level of comfort.

I got it from JDM over black Friday and got a 8psi custom pulley from carmen over on fnsweet.com. The kit came with the TVS, GT500 Fuel Kit, Autolite HT0's, and JDM tune Everything came to be around $6300

BLOW IT and never look back... I beat the crap out of my heavy ass vert at the strip for a whole summer at 450rwhp... had the blower on it less than a month after I bought it... still be on it if I didn't have the crappy driver issue... how much does it cost to ship a car to Ger?

The military will ship my car for free. I'll have to pay out of pocket for my wifes car also. Heard its between $2-3K but don't know for sure

Just put the TVS on!

And this is when I still had Steeda underdrive pulleys. Without the underdrive's and a custom Carmen's 3.47 pulley I laid down 512 @ 11 PSI
