Ok so I blew my old engine a couple months ago. In went the new motor and all was well. I wanted to hit the track tomorrow so I swaped out my front springs and threw on some drag radials. Took it for a spin and It hooked hard in second stuffed it into third and it seamed like I missed it. Well it turns out something broke. I'm guessing input shaft or I scattered the clutch. I would be willing to keep it a manual if I can find a buttetproof trany that can keep up for under $3,000. If it is going to cost more than that I would just hold out for the auto. Any thoughts?

I think an auto swap, with a beefy auto will run you more then $3000.

TKO600 is probably your best bet. I believe, Im probably wrong, but they work the stock drive shaft and trans crossmember.

Promotion Powertrain sells a built T3650 with 26 spline input shaft, and Gorilla forks for only $1690.

Or you could just send in your input shaft to Liberty Gear have them 26 spline it for $350. Bunch of options.

If you have the money, I would just go with a Magnum T56 for $2900. But then you need the crossmember, driveshaft, and clutch disc for the 26 spline input shaft.

Yeah but you traded your auto trans, OP will most likley have to buy a new one.

If you can get a beefy auto for a good price, definitley do it.

I got a quote for a fully built 4r with all the bells and whistles to hold 1000hp for 2200 bucks without labor. Then if I bought a Circle D converter it would be about 4300 bucks. Thats a MVB and transbrake. Same transmission in a 99 cobra 76mm turbo making 800rwhp and still had more left.

You might want to call Kurgan motorsports then cause I paid less then that, and mines guaranteed for 1000 as well.

I have $2000 plus in my C4 swap, which is top notch but assembled by me with all used parts. If you have any thoughts of going that route and you're not doing all of the work I would agree with Shaun and say $3000+. 4R70 built would probably be in the $2000 ballpark with all used parts if you do everything. If you're not going drag strip only I'd have to also suggest the ProMotion T-3650...... it's a bargain.

Ok so lets say I want to keep the stock shifter location and switch to an auto. Do I stay with the 4r70 or should I do something different? And where does everyone recommend for auto transmissions? I know of freddy brown, but like I said it's a ton of money.

Thanks for all who have chimed in thus far.

any auto swap can keep the shifter in the stock location, you can either modify the stock auto shifter to work with your choice of trannys or use a b&m hammer direct fit shifter (ok for swaps, but I wouldn't use one for a 4r70w).

most guys move them back becuse they are easier to reach but there are plenty of solutions to keep the stock location.

don't forget that if you swap a 4r70w in the car you'll need a new ecu & obviously a retune since the 5spd ecu cant run the auto shifting functions.

you'll most likely want to retune the car anyway though no matter what trans you use.
