Is the engine running ok with no apparent damage from deep throating the Spectre parts?

If so that would be a big relief.
Yes it is running better then ever that whore deep throated that **** an spit it out I got very lucky this time only ending up messing up the turbo.

Actually your turbo impeller may have "took one for the team", it probably chopped the Spectre parts down into digestible chunks.

Since it came apart so easily it must have been made out of pot metal, which is pretty soft and probably didn't hurt anything in the engine.

I'm impressed with how you kept your head over this, if it had happened to me my head probably would have exploded.

The part inside the air filter bounced around pretty good I'm not convinced any of it broke off, but rather bounced around messing up the impellor. I drove the car a lot today and it ran great.

Many times on the diesel motors the glow plug tip break off and get rattled out of the motor the same way with no damage. I'm not saying there wasn't a scar or an issue I can see but the car is running better than it has in years and the AFR is on spot.

I am glad you didn't have to pull the motor. I know the damage sucks but I am glad it isn't any worse.

Thanks guys and yes I already have ordered another filter and will once again be changing the oil. Depending on what the air filter company tells me will depend on how lissed off I get about this whole thing. You'd think that gluing chrome metal to plastic is a bad ideal. Now I gotta find me a not her filter that will get the job done. A yone have any leads yet? It needs to flow like a Mofo for this turbo.

Has anyone ever ran a setup like we do on the blowers where it relocates the filter to the fender to draw in cooler air.

I don't see why you couldn't fab up a pipe to put the air filter in the fender

Me neither I got all the material already to make it happen and it'll help the AIT out maybe a little. I just got me a 4 foot piece of 4 inch stainless pipe I may just cut and weld that up.

I'm considering doing something similar. Possibly putting it down under my headlight or something.

Ive got room inside my fender for it so I think I will tuck it in there. The only concern I have it with another piece of metal under the hood is it going to be counter productive by holding heat in the tube?

This is the style air filter ill be going with as you can see no turbo destroying metal to come apart. I think the filter got so hot the glue deactivated and fell apart.

That's the filter I was going to recommend. I have ran k&n for years. The construction is sturdy and should hold up. You should be able to pick it up at any local auto parts store.

Man I got a feeling this turbo wheel is going to cost me some cash, anyone want to take a stab at the cost?

You used an autozone brand filter, and are pissed it exploded. Lol
A lot of people use that filter and have no problems at all. Myself included. He didn't have any reason to suspect it would fail. It's just as expensive as most K&N filters, and he was running 2 of them. $80 in air filters isn't cheaping out imo.

You sure know how to be a dick at the wrong time do yourself a favor and don't stop back in here. These filters cost as much as a K&N.

I am up to suggestions for a new turbo. what brand do you all think I should buy?

Aem dryflow here, worked fine on the blower setup and definitely is all plastic. Running it to the fender well will give you the best IAT into the turbo. Numerous people swapped to powerpipes on blowers and picked up 1-2lbs of boost one even blamed the swap without tune correction as the reason to his stock bottom end grenading. Can't see a turbo being much different.
