4.10s and Boost

Well after reading the budget supercharger thread I'm probly gonna go that route. Looking for about 370-400 rwhp. I have 4.10s in now and was going to get a 26inch tall tire but I know thats too much gear for the track for a boost setup. If I get a 28inch tire will I be able to run nominal boost (7-9 psi) and keep my 4.10s in without going past 6200 rpm? My original plans were to stay N/A for budget reasons but it's gonna cost more to do heads and cams then to do a piece together vortech setup.

Nice write up btw Shaun on that budget build!!

you can make up for the 4.10's with a taller tire, but i would recommend 3.73's personally. i have 4.10's and boost and wish i had gone with 3.73's.

Put the blower on and see how it is. I have 4.10s and at my power level they are perfect. On a 26" tire crossing the traps around 6300rpm. For the track just put a 27" tire on it if you are looking for 375rwhp. On 9psi you may see 370rwhp depending on which headunit you get. A 28" tire with 4.10's should allow you to go well into the 120's.

yeah, i have a KB @ 9psi, and 4:10's. not bad rpm wise at the traps, however the instant torque hit and the gears are to much. ill be stepping back to 373's soon.
Different type of blower, but just saying, the only problem is because of my TS, feel like if I had a centri it would be ok.

373's compliment each other very well on a boosted car. I just went from 410 to 373 because of this.

Lack of traction is one reason. The other reason is to increase the trap speed without over revving the motor. There was a thread a year or so ago that detailed gears, tires, trap speed, ETs, etc. Only six of the 21 respondants with supercharged cars ran 4.10s.

For me lack of traction and the concern with trap speed!!

yes it would be fun for a street car, however with all that tire shredding be prepared to loose a few races to some cars you otherwise wouldnt due to traction issues.

I don't ever race on the streets so that shouldn't be a problem. I just want my car to be as much fun as this 400rwhp vette I got to drive awhile back if I can get it to be like that ill be happy. And op try the 4.10s out before you make your decision. You can always step down to 3.73s if you don't like it.

Mustang chick lol I'm auto and the 410 is definitely too much for my car of course I'm at 600 rwhp.

Whats with you and all this daily driver concern? Are you concerned about gas mileage or something else? I have 4.10's with 9psi and drive the car daily. Even in the winter in 6" of snow with snow tires on. I don't know why you are so scared like you're car is not going to be driveable or something. A 3200-3800 stall converter is fine for a daily driver. 4.10 gears are fine for a daily driver. A blower is fine for a daily driver.

Don't get all over the guy, this forum is for help not negative criticism like that..

It just this is the second thread in two days that he has asked if this will be fine for a daily driver. Just trying to get across that you can do basically anything to your car and still drive it daily. The biggest impact to weather the car is daily driver friendly will be the suspension imo. Being an automatic you already don't need to do anything while driving so you can throw anything at it that the motor/tranny can handle. Your gas mileage might get impacted a little, but other than that there is nothing to worry about if everything was installed properly. I think he would greatly benefit from making his own thread and asking what is/isn't daily driver friendly.

I use BFG KDW II's with my 4.10's and blower and they are fine.

Do the 3.73's. I am at 10 pounds and right at 400rwhp and the 3.73's get the job done. Running 4.10's on the street is a lot of work. First gear is almost pointless with boost. I am getting about 23 miles a gallon and I drive the car, but most of my time is spent on the freeway. At 70mph I am right at 2400rpm.

Thx for the replies gang!! Some reps given. Shoulda said this before but this car has become a weekend only car. So the wild first gear and no traction on the street is no bother to me. I keep my WOT driving in a controlled enviorment ;) Just was hoping with 400rwhp and 28 inch slicks I would'nt over rev and I got my answers

thx again!!

A lot of times whether something works on a daily driver is simply a judgment call. What is acceptable to one person might drive someone else crazy. Automatic pretty much need 4.10s because of their very high first and second gears. On the street a supercharged auto with 4.10s might be OK. Running the quarter mile unless the tach is pushed into the red it is likely that it will run out of gear with stock size tires.

I'm running 3.73s. There isn't any time on the street that I can go WOT in first. Even if I'm already running 25 mph if I push the pedal to the metal my drag radials will break loose and I'm bouncing the motor off the rev limiter. 4.10s would be worse.

Eagle its pretty much the same thing for the automatic and 410 gears its nothing but a tire shreader, i pretty much hated it with the 410's cause all the spinning.

Skidad....are those 28s up front too and how wide are your track tires? Thx again for the advice on rolling the fenders for 28s.

My tires are going bald from me punching it at 20mph and breaking the tires loose, a lil rear end wiggle for about 50ft. Im running 3.55's.
