painted intake manifold?

i've got a spare intake manifold in the living room and was thinkin of painting it aluminum. i figure it would look badass with some blue powder coated valve covers (coming soon). i saw a shelby cs8 in some magazine and it had a chromed intaked manifold and i thought that was kinda cool and not something you see everyday. so questions:

how should i paint it? should the entire thing be aluminum or should i just do the curvy runner things up top?

any issues with painting the intake manifold? i plan on using high temp resistant paint, but is there anything else i should be aware of?

is there anything else that would look cool that i should do (some sort of decal or emblem on top of it or something)?

I assume your talking about the Plenum.

If your going to paint it I would paint the entire thing, not just the "Curvy runner things"

No stickers needed.

When you say aluminum do you mean Chrome or Silver?

You would need a couple coats of high temp primer and color paint. Possible a clear as well.

OR you could just pick up a JPC intake manifold already in chrome with direct nitrous ports :)

ya i'm talking about the plenum. the reason i suggested just the curvy runner things is because the coyote intake plenum has a similar scheme, but after thinking about it, this plenum would look alot better one solid color than two. and **** a jpc intake lol. i don't even need that ****.

You cant paint something aluminum. Thats a material not a color.. ;)

What color is your car? If you want blue covers I would either do a thick silver or a nice blue that will compliment the covers.
by aluminum, i meant the color not the material. you know how model cars have parts that need to be painted "aluminum"? that's what i was referring too.

my car is black. i was thinking of a ford racing theme so blue and silver/aluminum would look great with some small red accents here and there. i contemplated sticking a "powered by ford" emblem somewhere in the engine bay.

I would scuff up the covers a bit and and after a good cleaning use some adhesive promotor (3M is good), and then prime if first. If you want that really smooth finish with the chrome paint or whatever you should wet sand the primer with 1500 or 2000 grit. Take your time, and attention to detail on the prep, and it is easy to come up with a good looking product.
you really think all that prep is necessary for this plastic plenum? i thought the texture of the plenum already felt like it was kinda "prepped" if you will. i don't really want to do a chrome look. i just want a nice raw looking aluminum-ish finish. but ya you're probably right, i'd rather get it right the first time then have that **** start flaking.

I don't know if powder coating will take to the plastic intake. Isn't it electrostaticly applied and then baked.

We powder coated our intake also. I left it up to builder how much to powder coat. I think he likes red.....a lot.

wow, that looks really good. i really like it with the green. but i think you're right, black will look better with the valve covers. damn, now this has me wondering if i should just leave mine black... i still feel like i need to do something with it before i put it in. any ideas?
